Where is it best to get visa for Egypt?
Hi,
Can anyone advise where it is easiest to get a visa for Egypt. Nairobi, Addis or on the Wadi Halfa/Aswan ferry? What time do they typically grant? Any other requirements we should know about (for example whilst seraching the forum I came across a reference to keeping forex/ATM receipts in Ethiopia if you want to apply for an egyptian visa there? It was back in 2006 - is this still relevant does anyone know? Thanks very much Itchyfeet PS. We have ethiopian visa already and will apply for sudanese in the next day or so. |
I got mine in Addis very easily, I expect you will have to get it before they will give you a Sudanese visa, that used to be the way. You might need an exchange receipt so change enough cash at a bank and get a receipt, don't use a credit card they ask too many questions like for a photcopy of the fron and back, sounded suspect to me.

You can get it on the ferry to Aswan very easily. I think it was US$15 for a month. I was there in April 2011. You have to do immigration on the boat anyway, getting the visa just involved handing over the cash and getting a label stuck in my passport which took literally 5 minutes. Then move to the next table and get it stamped. All happens in the cafeteria. Then look forward to the rugby scrum getting off the boat and through customs.
I got the Sudan visa in Nairobi well before getting the Egypt visa without any problems. Sudan visas were half the price there compared with Addis. |
