Bike on the Train from Italy, Sicily to the UK or Close
 

Hi Folks,

I have a month's leave from work to do a ride from Norfolk, UK through Europe to Sicily and would like to make the most of my time by riding there and then use the train from either near sicily or Rome to transport myself and the bike back. Leaving in mid August till mid september.

Can anyone advise me as to whats available to me? Has anyone done this before?

i think this service by die bahn han been suspended.Before there was a train from Alexandria to Germany.You can try it with Öbb from Austria.

Hi Conan,

I think the train is not the best option. You should contact one of the big trans-European shipping companies (DSV for example). They can find a truck that is going from around Sicily to somewhere in the UK and arrange to put your bike in it, then you can just fly home on Ryanair and pick up the bike from a cargo terminal when it arrives.

Last year I got a quote from DSV (whose local agent knew how to ship bikes and could give advice on how to prep for intra-EU truck shipment - the short version is, nail two europalettes together) for Estonia to Barcelona for around 300 euros each way.
