Brasilia to Europa
Hi,
I will have to send my Beemer back from Brasilia to Lisabon in Portugal. Anyone done this before Erwin ------------------ |
Hi Erwin,
In februari '98 my brother and I shipped our suzukis DR 600 from Santos (near Sao Paulo) to Rotterdam, Holland. We made only a verbal agreement about all the costes. They would sent our bikes in a container. They did, but only our 2 bikes in one container. They made up some new "rules" for exporting a bike. So when our bikes arrived in Holland we had to pay about US$ 2000 for each bike instead of the more normal fee about US$600. We paid, because we had our bikes on Carnet. And i love my bike...... I only want to say, make very good written agreements, otherwise you can have a lot of extra costs later. Later after our our trip in South America we realised that no touring organisations for organised tours ship their bikes to or from Brasilia. I guess they know why... Udo |
Hi Erwin ,
Another possibility would be to ship it from paranagua (Parana) with Grimaldi Lines to Europe. It is a RoRo service , so no crates needed . And they take passengers too . In `94 prices from Brasil to Genua were about 400 US for a bike and about 800 US per person . Shipping from Brasil is quite bureaucratic . Otherwise try to get it on board of a freighter with just paying the captain and let the shipping agent drive the bike inside the port area (paperwork = zero) . Risky but I did it twice with good result (also in paranagua . I would avoid Santos . too big too much theft , too corrupt ) And the last option is to drive down to Uruguay or Argentina where it is much easier to ship from. Marcel |
