Clearing custompapers
 

URGEND!!!
We are at the moment in Kuala Lumpur and contacted an agent to get the papers don with the customs,but we're thinking that he's asking ways to much.We have no experience with doing it ourselfs but really wanna try it.Does anyone has experience with thisor can somebody help us out.Heard about a handler-person who brings you around?
We will be very happy if somebody can give us some more info.At the moment it is 9.00upm gonna come back tomorrow in the morning because the boat with the bike is arriving tomorrow.

Check out Trip Planning "Shipping the bike" from Tehran to Kuala lumpur on this website. it has a story of shipping into Kuala Lumpur in October 2001. Sounds like its okay. Let us know how you make out, as I am planning to ship into K.L.In October 2002.

Thank you for your help but didn't had much help on it because these people are talking about customs in the airport and we putted the bike on a ship so have to deal with other customs.

Bossit - I'm sorry we couldn't help with this, it's too short notice. We have limited information on shipping by boat into KL, although Mika Kuhn did it in Oct 2000 from Japan. His total costs, including freight and paperwork in both Japan and Malaysia were US$380. "for a Yamaha Ténéré in a BMW F650GS crate = Export customs clearance $54, Shipping to port $90, Ocean freight $147, Documentation, handling charge $90."

So, it sounds like the charges at the KL end should only be about US$90.00. But if you have to deal with it yourself, it might take several days more than using an agent - it's a tradeoff.

But for Cameron, if you are sending by sea, I suggest you contact Amran Parimon from the HU Community in Kuala Lumpur for suggestions on who to use for clearing the bike. Go to the Community page:

Hi Susan,

At the moment we already have the bike out of the port.We did it after all with the company.But we had to pay first around 100$ for administration and paperwork what is a lot of money in my opinion.Anyway we bargained on their price and payed for the clearence a 150 $.So for their work in the customs we paid 50$.I'm really want to know or we paid to much or this is a normal price?Went this morning to the office and went with them to the customs.They said i was lucky because i got my stamps in 1 hour.Went to the port and got the bike free in 1 our.Well, still had to do some work on it because i took the front wheel out.But i'm still thinking 150$ for some paperwork is a lot.No?Total cost off shipping the bike is around 380$but give all my detail later on the Shipping part.

Here's another possibility. Carl Santora, whose wife Su Yin is Malaysian, suggests flying into Penang International Airport near Butterworth rather than KL, as a much 'quieter' and easier airport to come into Malaysia.
