Container to Chile/Patagonia

Looking for riders to join in a shared container from Los Angeles to Valparaiso, Chile. Departing in January for February arrival. Specific schedule open for discussion. Plenty of time to get to Patagonia and Ushuaia before winter. Respond to this post or PM. Thanks

This is exactly what I am planning. I live in San Diego and want to ship my KLR from Long Beach to Valparaiso in January to be ready for my arrival
Feb 1.

I want to ride south through Patagonia to Ushuaia and then visit my daughter in Buenas Aires before returning to Valparaiso around March 8. I can slide the trip a few days either way.

I have extensive experience riding from San Diego to Alaska twice and across the US several times. I like primative camping but could also go for hotels if desired.

I have heard from some freight forwarders and waiting for their estimates. Let me know what your planms are and maybe we can hook up.

I'd be interesting in joining you on this —*turns out my contract will end sooner than I thought and I've got the time.

However, my bike is in Toronto. Not sure the best way to get it down there.

You can usually truck a bike across the continent pretty inexpensively. Uship is a cool service that you list your bike on and ask for bids from carriers to get your bike to a destination. Go here to get bids uShip - The Online Shipping Marketplace - Ship Freight, Furniture, Cars or Moves

You can probably ship it to Long Beach, CA from Toronto for less than $600. The cost of driving it there yourself with gas and lodging prices might approach that much. Check it out. Let me know.

container

Sailingyogi,

We will load the container close to LAX around Jan 8th. Take a look at your options and send me a PM with email information if you are interested and I"ll fill you in on the details. Thanks

I've never shipped a motorcycle before — either on a trailer or in a container. What is the process for getting it secured into the container? Is this something that can be handled w/o me or so I need to get the bike on a palette in Toronto first?

shipping to LAX

Sailingyogi, check out docsabre's recommendation for getting the bike to LA. You will need to talk with the trucking companies to see if a pallet is required. I'm sure the freight forwarding company TTC in LA can receive and store the bike for a fee until we load the container. The bikes will be loaded and strapped down by the riders. I prefer to load and tie the bikes down myself. If one or two riders cant be there, The others will assure to load and secure the bike with your straps. Obviously we will take great care but are not responsible for damage. You can purchase freight damage insurance for $200-300. I used the same process in 2011. I cant say if this process is cheaper for you then ocean shipping from Seattle or other ports closer to you.
