Darien gap shipping
I'm trying to find information on a different method of crossing the Darien gap. Can you not just by a boat? Not a 60ft pleasure cruiser, just a little boat with an outboard and a 1 ton weight rating? Any idea how much one of these would be? Has anyone tried this before?

I'm in the same boat as you doh
trying to find something affordable and not a firggin cruise. when are you planning on heading that way? |
At the moment I'm expecting around May 2018 heading northbound but that is a rough estimate at best.
|
Ill be heading south bound early june :-)))
I'm subscribing to your thread, as i'm going to be dealing with this in july. |

Give this guy a call. 301 231 5515. Juan Carlo. Yes, you need to speak Spanish. |
i think 300-400 is fine, do they include food in that price and what about all the paperwork?

Paperwork and food will be on your dime. If you cannot speak Spanish or have issues going native, this option is not for you. |
i do not speak spanish, but the other things are not a problem. I will have a friend that's in Colombia and speaks spanish contact Juan Carlo in a month or so.

Thats a suggestion, I dont want to discourage you but we have heard of other riders for several scams. Before paying, make sure that everything is sorted and especially your bike's safety and your paperwork for both exiting from Panamá & entering to Colombia.
My advice is to look for recommendations of the shipper. Safe travels. p.s.: A lot of people (like me) who drive vans & trucks look for bikes to share a container and lower down the costs. I did the same with two DR650s we met randomly. They paid less than all included for 2 bikes. This is just another SAFE option. |
StormTrooper. I'll be headed south around or over the Darien Gap in late January or early February. Let me know if the timing lines up. Maybe we can combine our bikes for lower shipping costs.
