Ferry from Shanghai, China to South Korea?
 

We are looking to get ourselves and two motorcycles from Shanghai to South Korea at the beginning of October. Most of my web searches turn up fairly old and perhaps stale information. Does anyone have any experience with this route?

After South Korea we plan to take another ferry to Japan. So while there are ferries available from Shanghai to Japan we would definitely prefer to get to South Korea first.

Hi, I've tried to find some information on the LYG ferry from Shanghai to Seoul but the website is in Korean and Google Translate cannot process it. I emailed them and received no response.

All I want to know is how much is the lowest fare including port tax and what the sailing schedule is. Any help would be appreciated!

Fare for one passenger is USD 100,, for the bike he said call back ,, but thinks around USD 280.

You can bi-pass Korea and go straight to Japan on;

We are planning to travel from Tianjin to Incheon in June this year (2013) with two people and two bikes.
This information helps a lot thank you.

I am told the ferry we had planned to use from Tianjin is for passengers only and does not take bikes. Is anyone able to confirm this?

We are travelling on two DRZ400s and therefore require two bikes and two passenger to travel across to Korea, then Japan afterwards.

Unless you hire a container...


From the port of Lianyungang some 400 KM north of Shanghai ,,
YOU MUST take the ferry to Pyung Taek, Korea. Some 50KM south of In Cheon.
Reason being !
This service has Ro-Ro service.
I've just spoke to them on the phone.

Clarify and book.
Call me when you are in Seoul so we can pamper you before heading out to Japan.

Thanks for the up to date information. This is very much appreciated.
We are in Cambodia at present on out way to Laos.

It seems though, our 'tour' operator in China cannot change our itinerary to leave from Lianyungan instead of Tianjin, without lots more time and money.
It means we have two options:
1. use a container from Tianjin - which is a major hassle in terms of communication, time and money, especially on a tight visa timeline
2. cancel the China section of the trip which is half paid for already!
I know the tour operator is limited by the bureaucracy there, but they have been a little less helpful than expected and recommended Tianjin as the port for departure.

We will have to consider the options carefully.

I wonder if there is still a passenger ferry running from Tianjin to South Korea.
It seems to be the case when I look at the website but I am not 100% sure.

I also wonder if the ferry, if it is running, would be happy to take a couple of motorbikes on board, just for one trip.

I have heard of it happening, just not recently.

No luck with google translate but I have asked the tour operator to chase it up. We shall see what happens. They do not seem too keen on asisting in this respect. :(
