Ferry to Port Said

I want to get 2 bikes plus riders from Europe into Egypt, looking at the map Port Said being the choice. Advice on which, if any ferries run into Port Said would be very welcome as I am new to this long distance game!!! Any suggestions? Thank. Simon

Hi Simon,

I'm doing a similar trip in about a months time. Unfortunately I don't think there are any ferries that run from Europe to Egypt anymore. The service seems to have closed down a couple of years ago. I think the choices you have are:-

1. Ride down through Turkey, Syria, Jordan and then into Egypt. (this is the route I am taking)
2. Get a ferry to Tunisia and then ride through Libya and on to Egypt. (this is my route home)
3. Fly yourself and the bikes in, but I have read that Egyptian officials make this very hard work. (this is my approach to get home if it ALL goes wrong)

Hope this helps.

Due to some international maritime law, many freighters now can carry a small number of passengers. It might be worth looking into this, especially if you can go direct from soutern France or italy direct to aquabar... if i spelt that right... the jordanian port at the end of the red sea. as entry into jordan is i beleive less fraught than into egypt..
as freight.

these are sample sites http://www.freighterworld.com/ and http://www.freightercruises.com/

no doubt you can find others...

Thanks for the thoughts!

Appreciate the advice - will post what happens and which way to go. I think the land route down through Syria is an option, but will pursue the 'freighter' option first I think. Simon

Thanks, it is nice to have feedback from whatever the eventual resolution of this problem might be
