Flying bikes into Cairo
We have just flown our bikes from london to cairo with Egyptair. Having gone over to their cargo last night we were instantly bombarded with the usual stuff. But they have tried to tell us that the price will be 4000egyptian pounds (400pounds)to get the bikes out and to sort out licenses and stuff. We have a carnet and this is way more than what we have been told.
Does anyone know what the price should be?how it works?and maybe a good fixer in Cairo? |
... welcome to Egypt, they say...
Clean, lean but possibly pricey:
Ask for the Import ManagerOtherwise I used this other one below to clear stuff last December.. I won't use them again because I value honesty and transparency, but I got my stuff. All in all 4000 EGP for 2 bikes with temporary plates, insurance, headaches, and the joy of dealing with the Egyptian bureaucracy appears somehow reasonable. Now be aware this is only the beginning of the adventure. It's for everything. Lost a day last week with them, they wanted to see if the serial number of the engine had changed on my 300Tdi, they could not locate it! Then they wanted me to buy a safety triangle, then a first aid kit, then.. Learn the golden rule from idiots before you: Never loose your temper with them or it becomes worse after. Tell us all about it when you're through, please. |
Welcome to Egypt
