Freight Disassembled bikes?
I am one of three Australians wanting to ship 3 bikes (yamaha ag200's 1980's- don't ask) from Australia to Nepal. I have heard that it is possible to reduce costs by disassembling the bikes and sending them not as vehicles. Does anyone have experience in this, is it possible and how does one go about it?
Cheers. |
"Not as vehicles" - not really necessary, as there is no customs issues IF you're travelling through. IF you're planning to leave / donate / whatever them IN Nepal, that's a whole other issue and you run into customs problems - you're SMUGGLING. Jail sucks.
Dismantling - to reduce the freight bill, absolutely - the smaller and more compact the better. Bikes are LIGHT for their volume, and the shipping system works on a weight / OR volume basis. Bikes almost always go based on "volumetric weight" which means you pay more. Make it as tiny as possible and you'll save money. See the Shipping page for more. |
