Has anyone ever shipped from Timor to Canada?
Hi everyone,
The plan is to either ship from Timor to Darwin: easy to do. But expensive in some ways. That's the plan A. Plan B: shipping to Canada. We've got a working holidays visa for Canada, and we want to be in Vancouver by end of september the latest - we will be working in Québec, so we're going to have a few miles to drive first. No way we'll do it in december... The side car is about 6 Cbm... - Has anyone done it? - Any idea of the costs? - How much would cost an insurance in Canada (i think it's compulsary, isn't it?)? Thanks for the answers! |

My buddy shipped his VStrom from Vancouver to NZ a couple years ago. Cost him about $3000 Cdn return. He was there for 3 months so it was cheaper than trying to rent a bike. Took about 3-4 weeks each way shipping. As for insurance you won't be able to purchase here because you are not a Cdn citizen or resident. Your bike would have to be registered in Canada somewhere to get it. Can't you use your insurance from your home country? I see quite a few EU bikes in this area so it must be possible. Good luck. If you make it to Vancouver Island PM me and we can help you out if needed. Cheers Richard PS; We have some shipping magazines at work. I will see what I can find form them. They have a listing of all the vessels/shipping companies and where they go to. |
When we were in Timor and enquired about shipping to NZ we were told that everything gets transhipped through Singapore. I suggest you contact Corocodile Agency, who are agents for Bintang Mas Shipping. They are on the corner of Av. Belarmino Lobo & Rua de Nu Laran in Dili. Ask to speak to Troy Adams. He offered to arrange shipping to KL for us, so I guess he can arrange shipping to anywhere. Warning: it won't be cheap. Crates are imported from Indonesia and cost about 200 US$.
You can also try SDV, the well-known Perkins agent, just around the corner and get a quote from them as well. |

Concerning the insurance, I think it is compulsary, and my french insurance is not covering Canada - i was covered in Iran though... I will have to find that out. Normally, my girlfriend and I should go to Vancouver. The plan is to do the big canadian ride, so I'll try to get in touch when we get there. Regarding the shipping companies and the vessels, if you've got anything, I'm up for it! Cheers! Quote:
Regarding SDV, I've heard of him quite a few times. None was associated with any nice appreciation... Crates are imported?!??? Isn't it possible to do the crate himself?? I mean, it is not that difficult. In top of that, we don't quite match usual motorcycle sizes. Thanks for all your answers and advices. If you hear anything about that kind of shippment, please let me know. |

How did you proceed? I just shipped from India to Malaysia, and it cost me 600 euros - roughly. Thing is, the transport itself is not so expensive. Most part of the costs is at the port. That's why I'm quite surprised to hear those prices, which are much closer from the quotes I got for air fret. :(
