Kiwis with air freight experience please!

Hi all,

My wife and I are planning a Trans-Russia trip for next year on our R100GS.
Currently we're trying to sort transport options for the bike and are tending towards air freight.

We're keen to hear from anyone who has flown their bike out of Auckland, particularly to South Korea or Japan.

Do we deal direct with the carrier or is there an agent that will look after the process? I'm keen to go direct, and the preference would be to arrive on the same flight as the bike of course.

Best regards,

Igor and Penny

Hi Igor and Penny,

I sent my bike via QANTAS from Auckland to Australia. I used a company called Green Freight at the Auckland airport. They were efficient and had experience with sending bikes around the world, would certainly recommend them.

Thanks Peter!

Just sent Green Freight an email. Looking forward to what they say.

I've read advice about dealing directly with a carrier rather than a forwarder to avoid unnecessary costs, but I'm thinking in this case it might be the best (only?) option since we can't fly direct.

Try Karen Hageman at DHL in Auckland. She is their freight manager and is good to deal with. She gave us a good deal from Akl to BsAs in Argentina.

Cheers Kim, I'll give her a call for sure.

Can anyone comment on whether it's worth trying to deal with an airline directly? I've heard it done, but not specifically out of Auckland, so not sure about that possibility.

Igor
