requirements for a 3rd party to pick up mt truck and clear customs in cape town
I am preparing to ship my truck from alex egypt to cape town ($4500 on a messina line roro) when the truck arrives in capetown i want someone to pick it up for me. What will that person need to have in order to go to the port and pick up my truck and clear customs?
I am a us citizen. I am the owner of the car. the car is registered in south africa in my name and i have all paperwork. i have a current carnet. Thank you!! Glenn |
Hi Glenn,
You should be able to just have a legally binding 'power of attorney' for whoever is picking up the truck, however the stumbling block could be the Carnet. Customs guys can be rather anal with completing Carnets without the named owner present. Get your contact to visit Customs and talk to them directly about the the trucks Carnet and if a power of attorney will suffice for entry. |
thanks griff. since the car is going back to capetown will i even need to show the carnet? i know i have to send it back to get my deposit back, but will SA coustoms need to see it?
