Ro ro boat from South Africa to UK?
Hi, all. I have seen here some good info about ro ro boats from UK to ZA, but I want to do the inverse way, shipping on a ro ro a bike from Cape Town (or Durban or Port Elizabeth) to UK. The closer to Plymouth, the better.
Has anyone shipped recentely a bike on a ro ro from ZA to UK? Thanks. |
What I got
Dear Miquel
Due to bad experiences in the past with ro ro shipment where we found that we had so many damages and theft of car and motorbike accessories, we made a corporate decision to no longer use this method of shipping. It is not necessary for a crate when shipping in a shared container as the bike gets rigged down to the floor of the container with nothing on top or around the bike. This space has been allowed for in our quote. Thank you and kind regards Johan Kruger BritanniaAidan K. Hi all, finally I shipped the bike from Port Elizabeth to Vigo in the west north Spain with Wilhemsen (As Maja recomended).
There is straight ro-ro boat between the two ports. Its name is Morning Cello. Costs are below and contact guy who organizes. I just have to give him the temporary permit of import from ZA customs (even expired) and a digital copy of my passport and loogbook. From Vigo you can ride in one day to Santander and take ferry to Plymouth. The travel takes 15 days. I will go to Vigo tomorrow to take the bike from the port authorities. I will tell how it is dealing with the Spanish customs. Hope this info could be useful for any other mate.
