ship bike to Europe from Djibouti?
I am writing this in the name of a friend who lived for the last 2 years in Ethiopia. He took hi R 100 GS with him and because of some problems he is now not allowed to drive back to Europe overland. He is now looking urgently for a way to ship his bike home, to any port in Europe.
Did anyone hear about any possibilities or sealines who do so? Thanks for your help, Silke |

We have no information from travellers on shipping from Djibouti, all I can give you is some contact details, including a couple of e-mail addresses. ETS Marill, Djibouti, Tel: 35.11.50, Fax: 35.56.23, e-mail: marill.d@intnet.dj Maritime and Transit Service Enterprise, Djibouti, Tel: 35.32.10, 35.32.04, Fax: 35.41.49 Massida Transit Sarl, Djibouti, Tel: 35.15.31, Fax: 35.55.18, e-mail: massida@intnet.dj Packtra Plc, Djibouti, Tel: 35.23.68, Fax: 35.23.68 However, based on travellers experience, we usually suggest flying the bike vs. sea shipping. The cost of shipping by sea may appear lower initially, but port charges can add considerably to the costs. Plus, shipping out of Africa or any undeveloped country means a considerable risk of theft. If he decides to fly the bike out, there are some air cargo agents who specialize in Africa. DAS Air Cargo is a US company which serves "over 40 African and Middle Eastern cities". http://www.dasairusa.com/Africa1.htm DAALLO AIRLINES PO BOX 1954 DJIBOUTI TEL: 00-253-353401 FAX: 00-253-351765 CTC: M YOUSSEF Please let us know how he makes out. ------------------ Susan Johnson 'One world, two wheels' www.HorizonsUnlimited.com |
