Shipping - Banjul Gambia back to UK
Can anyone help or advise re above. I'm planning on spending a month riding down Morocco, Mauri, Senegal and Gambia with pillion next March April. Trying to find way of shipping bike back from Gambia.
I've tried several shipping agents and searched on here but no luck so far. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks Sid |
Ha, good luck!!!
On a serious note, I have some very recent painful experience with shipping from Banjul. We rode two bikes down to Banjul over Christmas 06, safe and confident in the knowledge that we could fly them back with Redcoat Express, which a number of other posters had previously successfully used with minimal hassle. When we arrived in Banjul we discovered that Redcoat will now no longer take motorbikes as they need a dangerous goods certificate. We tried a few other airlines with no success, so resorted to shipping them out in a shared container with OT Africa, through Gambia Shipping Agencies. Well needless to say, the bikes arrived back in the UK last Friday, six months after they were placed in storage in Banjul. It would be quicker if you took the entire container (approx UK£1,000), but as we elected for a shared container (approx £180 per bike), we had to wait until the whole container filled up. Despite the delay OT Africa were fine to deal with and generally helpful, although it was difficult to get a firm answer as to the exact shipment date. I dealt with Fanta Conta. her contact details are: Fanta Conta-Tunkara Otal Representative Gambia Shipping Agencies Ltd 1A Cotton Street, Banjul, The Gambia Tel: +220 4227518 Fax: +220 4227929 Mobile: +220 9918166 Email: otal.banjul@gm.dti.bollore.com Email: fanta-conta.tunkara@gm.dti.bollore.com Good luck and be patient! cheers |
I did much the same a few years ago and got the bike shipped back
by this company: Edgar Holdings Ltd 5 Liberation Ave PO Box 143 Banjul Tel: (220) 22 64 94 Fax (220) 22 74 08 I wont put up their e mail to stop spammers harvesting it. pm me if you want it. I wasn't in a great rush to get the bike back and it took about 8 weeks which was fine for me. They did everything - stored the bike, arranged the paperwork and kept me updated by e mail. Cost around £300 which I paid to their London bank. |
Many thanks for helpful replies. 8 weeks I could cope with but not 6 months. Plan B is to send my wife back by plane and I might have to ride back.

Sid ,
How about trading the wife for a Camel which would be better equipped for trans african travel than you GS and send the bike home anyway :innocent: :mchappy: |
