Shipping bike from Long Beach to Chile, January 2015
This is a first for me- to ship one of my bikes, my KLR 650. I am planning a ride from Santiago, Chile (or Valparaiso, Chile more likely) to Puntas Arenas-Ushuaia, and then to Buenas Aires, then back to Santiago-Valparaiso. I plan to be in Chile Feb 1 and leave South America around March 8, 2015. I will ship the bike from Long Beach, CA.
I am looking for any information you can provide about reputable freight forwarders, how to avoid paperwork nightmares in Chile, what to expect regarding camping or hotels, money required orwhether there may be ATMs in the larger cities, and recommended "must see" sights along the route. If anyone will be doing this route at roughly the same time I would also appreciate the company. Thanks. David |
Check out "Special Agent Nancy's" blog on the ADV rider forum in the "Americas" section as she may be looking for an extra rider and another bike to ship around the same time.

Thanks, will do. I am a member of that web site too.

docsabre, Did you manage to ship from Long Beach to Chile?
Thank you. Victor

Yes. Sent them out of Long Beach around first of January. Long shoremen work slowdown totally screwed us. Bike is back in NY City and due in California later this week. It was fun but I will never again ship a bike. I'll just pay the extra $ to rent one.
