Shipping Delhi to Boston
I have a friend who is leaving July 28th and is trying to ship her '94 enfield to the USA.
Has anyone had any recent experienc with this? Thank you Cat Csyrbe@hotmail.com |
Cat, I'll assume that it is an Indian registered Enfield that has never been to the USA? And she wants to register it in the USA?
If so, I'd strongly recommend selling it in India. The costs and hassle of making it legal in the USA are astronomical and definitely not worth it. Many people want to bring bikes in to the USA that are not available there - and come to grief. The emissions regulations alone will kill the Enfield. New carburetor will be needed, ignition settings, and it's almost certainly too noisy, not just the exhaust, but also engine noise will all be a problem. Also anything else they can think of such as turn signals not the right size, lights not permanently on, and who knows what else. And if you solve all that, the paperwork is a nightmare. Fees run several thousand dollars on average from what I have been able to determine. Sorry for the bad news, but it's better than getting the bike there and ending up with an ornament! ------------------ Grant Johnson Share the Dream! at: www.HorizonsUnlimited.com |
By the way, don't post your email address on a message - people can get it by clicking the mail link above, and spammers can't harvest it because it's protected behind code.
