Hi Patrick,
We are looking to ship or fly our bikes from South America back to the USA in March next year. Would you mind sharing what you find out? What help were the team at DakarMotos able to offer? Cheers, and enjoy your Stahlratte voyage! Scott and Janet |
Please share the shipping info
Patrick, Scott, and Janet,
I am also shipping my DR650 back to the states in March, and I have 2 friends that might be doing the same. Any info would be appreciated. I am currently in Nicaragua heading to Panama for 3 weeks of Spanish lessons, then across the gap. I understand the Stahlratte is headed for Cuba in December? I haven't found a carrier/boat to get across the gap. Any suggestions from anyone? There might be 3 of us with 3 bikes. Thanks Short legs |
Here is his reply
Hi Patrick Thanks for you E-mail. The Stahlratte cross will be a must on your trip, and then the ride down the South Americas will be more... For the transport of your bike we manage only air freight and from Buenos Aires to almost anywhere without much paperwork and making it the least expensive and reliable mode of transport. If you can give us at least a two week notice then this is perfect and much appreciated, although we can work with as little as one week’s notice and sometimes less than that. The estimative price by now to air freight a typical traveller bike to Miami in the USA is in around of U$D 1.790.- As prices could change up or down a bit we will need to re-check it closer to the date. The price include booking, shipping organization, packaging, customs clearance, air freight and the entire local charges in Buenos Aires, it’s a whole package. No extra charges or fees here, no surprises. All quotations submitted by us are based on current rates and tariffs; as such they are subject to alteration without notice in the event of third party increase and/or exchange rate fluctuations. We will need to know for when exactly you will have your own fly tickets and when you will be in Buenos Aires for can plan ahead and don’t make you stay unnecessary time in BA dealing with this. Any other question just let us know and keep us updated regarding your arrival to BA for further information. Waiting for your comments… Hope this helps you and we will be waiting forward for your visit in Buenos Aires!!! ;) Ride Safe, Ride Far & Regards Javier & Sandra… DakarMotos.com |

Thanks a lot for posting that Patrick.
And cheers Mitch for your response. Was your shipment by sea or air? Would you mind sharing the price you paid? |
Hi again,
Based on info on this thread, a friend's recent experience sending his bike home from Chile to Australia, and my own preliminary emailing I've put together the following moto freight contact list: samericaxplorer@gmail.com (Gaston) - monthly RORO sea service from San Antonio (on the Chilean coast just south of Valparaiso) to various US ports. Cost unknown as yet. villakunterbuntvalpo@gmail.com (Martina and Enzo) - quoted $1800 by sea (Triumph Tiger 800) from Valparaiso, Chile to Brisbane, Australia. DakarMotos (Javier and Sandra) - estimated $1800 (KLR650) by air from BA to Miami. julio@dydcargo.cl - done deal of $2000 for Santiago, Chile to Brisbane, Australia (Triumph Tiger 800) by air (LanChile). danielacosta08@gmail.com (Daniel) - BA to NY (cost, freight type and bike unknown). I'm still in the early stages of my research at this stage, but will update this thread as I get more info. Perhaps y'all can do the same? Cheers, Scott |
I have been trying to contact Dakar Moto but no responses to my emails
Any other option? Thanks Patrick |
