Is is cheaper to ship a bike from certain parts of the east coast of the USA / Canada?

I have had a quote for around $750US, which seem quiet expensive, as I shipped a bike from Sydney Australia to the UK for $350US.

If you have any trade secrets or a special forwarding agent who´s bike friendly, I´d love to get their details.

Any help or advce much appriciated.
