Shipping rates for a van from Europe/Western Africa to Southern America
Hi,
I wonder what are current shipping rates for a van from different departures in Western Africa or Europe to Southern America I would be interested in the actual costs that you paid all together (also for the way back). I know that the question is not precise at all, but let me explain: I'm in the initial stage to plan a longer trip with my van through Southern America. I already read most of what I found about transatlantic shipping and understand that actual shipping rates are very variable and depend on a lot of factors (oil price, demand, kind of shipping, port fees, ...). I can imagine to start my trip with a tour down the Northwest African coast in case that shipping rates from West-African ports are much cheaper and I don't mind whether I arrive in Argentina or Uruguay. Due to the height of my van (2,7m), Ro/Ro or a high cube container are the only options for me. Also I wonder whether options do exist to travel on the ships, accompanying my van on its crossing instead of having to follow by air plane. I don't know yet whether the trip will start in 2017 or 2018. It's clear to me, that shipping costs can change a lot until then. But in order to do a rough estimate, some real numbers would be very helpful. In different forums, I found values from $1k to $5k. What is your experience? Cheers, comolik |
