Shipping to Chile/Carnet
Hi
I am planning on shipping my bike from NY to Chile or Buenos Aires. Was wondering if it is easy to take possession of the bike in these places if the bike is transported by air. Do I need a carnet to get the bike out of the airport at these places? Also, I need to come back to the States for a wedding midway through the trip. Will it be possible for me to fly out of the country, probably Peru/Ecuador/Central America, without the bike and return to continue the trip? Responses will be appreciated. |

Chiean customs are quite smooth, make sure you have an agent there that speaks english ( or make sure you can understand the heavy accented Spanish). You do not need a Carnet for Chile, they issue you with their own documents. However, if you want to head over the border to Argentina, you will need a Carnet.
You will not be able to leave the country without either paying the tax on the bike, or until you have the custom clearance that the bike has left.. Trust me , I missed my flight because of this |
