Shipping UK to Spain
I know this sounds strange but I am trying to plan an "express" road trip to Mauri and back over Christmas period..
not wanting to waste any time riding through france or catching the damn ferry from portmouth/plymouth (?!) to Bilbao want to know if anyone has shipped two, three bikes from UK - say London - to southern Spain, say Algeciras.. Granada or similar. so I can fly in pick up bike cross to Marocco and off towards Mauri.. same route back. Any ideas very welcome.. gt |
George,
If you do sort something out, please post. We are taking two bikes from London to Morroco, RIM, Mali & Senegal and could do without the hassle of a 36 hr ferry crossing or long ride at the start of the trip. I have looked into a few transport companies to truck the bikes down to Malaga or close by on the coast, however most have fallen through when we ask them to commit to a date & time. Average prices were quoted as between £250-£400 per bike. Our departure date is approx 9 November, so would be happy to split costs on transport etc, if this works for you. cheers |
Keep me posted George, i've got my carnet and vaccinations and still planning on a first week of January start going south from Granada.

You could have a word with Bill Oates at http://www.moto-morocco.co.uk He's started up a trailer transport business. Malaga would be a good handover point due to the cheap flights, giving you the option of going in via Nador/Melilla.

moto express
motoexpress they will do transport only if I have a full transporter max. 9 bikes,
for £3,500 (GBP 389.00 per bike) which is not cheap but its a lot less hassle than riding through france and spain in the middle of the winter. |
Thought about buying/borrowing/renting a tranny van and taking shifts driving???
Quick, cheap and fairly easy with minimum hassle factor. Phil |
fliying a bike into Spain (Malaga would be your best bet ) would be a nightmare. Hassle , costs , bourocratic barriers , language barriers , etc.. etc..
Its probbably "doable" , but a horrible horrible nightmare. They are not used to ship/receive motorbikes , and can/will blast you off with strange requirements , insurances , paperworks , Id say you could probbably spend in Malaga 3 nights until you get the clearance to take your bike off the airport (assuming Its not lost ,"lightened"" , etc.. ) . Plus you need to take off all oil , petrol , air , Batteries , etc.. Its very expensive , and worst of all , you dont' know when Its due to arrive , as most bikes won't fit in the standard UK-Spain AB320 or B737. so they'd probbably wait until bigger cargo airplanes (DHL's 767 / AB330) next flight I won't do it in any circunstance. BUT , you got a cheapier , ,easier option . -I presume you are in the UK-. Open the yellowpages , look for "Removals , International" and you will see a hell of a lot of companies which will ship your bike to any point in Spain for about a Sterling a weight-Pound . My fauvorite when I was in London was "Mudanzas España , Ramon Garcia & Sons" They will take up to a week , but that's not really important , if you can send the bikes 1 week before . If you need a dropping point to have the bikes sent , I can help you getting one in Mid- of Spain (4 hours ride to the Algeciras Ferry ) -for free , that is - , so basically you can send the bikes , confirm they have arrived , and then you pick one Easyjet London Madrid , and off you go. Have a nice day |
delay?

if you can delay until the 16th dec. to pick up bikes from Malaga, then I got someone who will transport the bikes over from London for GBP 250 each (1,000 a go), even better if we have 5 bikes works out cheaper. At the moment I am planning to ship over two bikes (or maybe three) to collect on the 16th. - so I need at least 2 more to make it price sensible. let me know. |
Hello George T.
Any chance your guy could have bikes in Malaga by Dec 9th? I will betravelling with Matt Roach (from other post on this thread) and we have 2 bikes to ship at this time. Would be perfect to split costs so close to jump-off point. Cheers Contact me (Ben) on 07795011004 if do-able. |
Ben hi,
I suppose we could ship our bikes early so it suits you for the 9th but need to find a place to store them for the a week or so.. let me look into it and will let you know if i find something suitable.. g t |
Shipping UK to Spain
Hi,
I used to work for a haulage company (as i'm on a overland trip myself at the mo: www.popadd.com/overlandy2006) having every Friday up to 15 trucks leaving from Lincolnshire and London (and Holland) leaving for the South of Spain and Morocco. These trucks generally arrive on the Wednesday afterwards in Morocco. Regarding custom clearance it would not be possiblæe to ship bikes to Morocco on a truck as it is personal property, but Algeciras, Granada or Malaga are good options. Check out www.hv-group.com and ask to speak to Lucien or Ronald in our Holland office on 0031 493 353 310 or AB in our London office on 0044 20 8341 4147 These guys might be able to help also with a storage space in the south of Spain until you guys arrive. Mention my name and it will probably be easier. A pallet to Algeciras is about GBP150-200 for the haulage. I don´t think these guys will charge you a lot more for a bike. Timing
Hey George,
It sounds like there are more options than we first thought. I'm still not too sure about timings - we may have all been and come back already before Sean even leaves :) I'm back in the UK next week - coffee while we pour over a map with Z and develop a vague p of a? |
