i have already checked the shipping info posted here. any more/more recent info available? which port will be the best to ship the bike from... and then fly out myself?

Are you planning to sea ship the bike, and fly yourself? If so, from Norfolk, Virginia, Hans-Ove Gortz found it took approx. 17 days to get to Sweden.

If you're flying the bike and yourself, check the Motorcycle Express website for fast quotes from a number of U.S. and Canadian cities to Europe.

As an example, flying the bike from New York to Amsterdam or Frankfurt is $1,147.00 one way.

So, you need to compare that against shipping costs, plus port charges, and consider the benefit of having the bike there at the same time or shortly after you arrive, versus waiting 2-3 weeks for it.
