Trans Siberian railway
Has anyone transported their bike on the Trans Siberian railway?
It seems easy enough to get a passenger ticket but information re getting the bike on the train (Plan to go Moscow - Novosibirsk) has been a bit vague. Any information appreciated. Paul |
Trans-Siberian
Hi Paul. I met 2 South Korean fellows (on the road to/from Omsk) who put their bikes on the train after one of them broke his arm in a fall on rough gravel on the stretch between Khabarovsk and Chita. I didn't ask for any details, but it sounded like it was no problem. The road often crosses the railway and one sees plenty of rail stations (in towns) along the way. No idea what they paid. Good luck, Hook.

For anything train related - The Man in Seat Sixty-One... although I don't know if it covers bikes on trains but if it's not on the site I'd ask him as he is very knowledgable, and helpful.

You can get your bike on the train, but originating in Moscow will be tough...contact the Horizons Community in Moscow to assist you. I found their communities very helpful. I inquired about the possibility in Chita and told it was possible...I simply needed to put it on a pallet so a fork-lift could handle it...pretty cheap price. I ended up riding it for different reasons. |

Hey Edd
Thanks again for another reply. I did exactly that and posted on the HU Russian community. Got a very helpful offer from their man in Moscow. What a site!! Cheers Paul |
If you rock up at a train station with a bike you will have a big problem, a massive one if you dont speak fluent russian!!
I managed to get a bike transported from novosibirsk to moscow for about 100 dollars(!!) by going to nbs motors in N'birsk and getting them to ship with their other bikes, including getting it crated up for me. The bike took two weeks, so plan some sightseeing or similar, maybe a trip to St Petersburg for culture or nights out in Moscow for pure depravity and liver damage! The bike arrived in Moscow just fine. NBS motors are in a large vehicle accesories etc shop compound to the north of the city, their address is 91KM Mkad (Mkad is the large circular outer ring road) Good luck! |
