UK to Egypt car in container??
I have just returned from a self drive trip to Egypt in my Landcruiser & am keen to return (possibly before my carnet expires!), however the journey from UK by road is quite expensive taking into account ferries to tunisia, guides etc in Libya etc etc, and also quite time consuming! & I would rather spend that time in the Gilf Kebir!
I was wondering if anybody has any (rough) ideas of feasability, shipping times & costs etc etc of shipping maybe 2 vehicles in a container to any convenient port in northern Egypt (Alexandria, Port Said etc??). Or any details of shipping agents etc, In fact ANY information that may assist me with a decision Thanks, Andy |
Would not recommend it!
The old Adriatica ferry to Alexandria has long been suspended. One of the reasons was the ever growing bureaucracy in Egypt.
As far as I know it just takes too long to disembark in any Egyptian port. Even Grimaldi Freighter Cruises which offers cars and passengers to be transported, does not even allow passengers to disembark in Alexandria. Would be curious to know of any better option! Greetings from Amman Achim |
Hi Achim,
I have just driven uk to egypt and am aware of the dreaded egyptian beauracracy!!! I was hoping to return before my carnet expires & was wondering about cutting out the long haul through Tunisia & Libya & maybe fly in to collect the car, & then ship it out & back to UK after thanks for your thoughts Andy |
In 2005 our friends shipped their Toyota Hilux - RoRo from Ireland to Egypt for about €800 one way unaccompanied. There may have been extra port charges on arrival. Their car was broken in and ransacked but it didn't ruin their trip (they knew the risks of having stuff in their car for RoRo).
