Date display
Unless I am simply delusional (which is a possibility), I believe that dates displayed on the HUBB used to be like "XX hours ago". But now they are specific dates (Jan. XX, etc.).
I kinda liked it the old way. It was nice because we are not all in the same time zone. Any chance of it being put back? :confused1: What do others think? Am I just imagining things, and it has always been this way?? doh |

Also the time zone in use appears to be + 1 hour i.e. BST and not the current GMT, which sort of confirms the point in the original post. |

I wondered what the thinking would be on that. I had a request for time, and it made sense, so tried it. So we've now got a few for the old way, but I assume those who like the new way haven't commented - so let's see what the vote is. :)

I greatly prefer "x hours ago," but I have to wonder whether displaying both is possible: time and date, along with "x hours ago."

Time Zone: It SHOULD show current GMT, not BSummerT. The overall Forum default is GMT, and automatically adjust for Summer Time. Good for most northern hemisphere countries, not so good for southerners, but there is no way to get it right for everyone. You can set yours differently if you wish to correct it - check in your user options / edit options / Date & Time options - it could be set to Automatically Detect DST, or ignore or always use DST in YOUR time zone. There are other settings in that page worth having a look at too, such as Thread Display options: Oldest first, or newest first! Number of posts to display per page is one I often set myself to a higher number. Also check that the Message Editor interface - last item on the page - is set to Enhanced interface, Full wysiwig editing. Hope that helps! |

(My vote is made). |
As Mark Twain famously said "I'm all for progress, it's change I don't like."
|
Ok, that's fairly definitive: 88% like yesterday/today system, so it's back! :)
|
Thanks Grant.
I too am a dinosaur and prefered the old "XX hours ago" system. It made scanning back on "Posts in last 24 hr" much easier for those who do not remain constantly logged in. Looking forward to it. |
It's already back Tony!

As long as someone's bumped this by voting in the poll......Hey Grant, it's not back at all. I still see time and date of posts, not xxx hours ago. Firefox 3.6.25 on OS 10.5.8. Am I missing something crucial?
Thanks. Mark |

this is what I see - you should see the same. The system will show today and yesterday, then older is dates. |
I seem to remember it originally being "posted xx hours ago". The old way made it easier to follow posts. If I was last on the HUBB 6 hours ago then I know that anything posted less than 6 hours ago might be new to me. With this new "today", "yesterday" setup it's much harder to figure out what I've already read.

So now everyone has seen them all. Hope you like it like this! |
Back to hours, that's how I like it

Thanks, Grant.
Now, as long as we're discussing inconsequential-but-niggling-little-details.....above and to the right of this thread I see "Welcome Markharf! You last visited one day ago at 22:54...." However, in point of fact I last visited a couple of hours ago, as evidenced by my recent post in this thread. This feature was working correctly for a brief while (after the great log-in failures), then stopped working correctly when you fixed something else. Does it matter? Naw. Mark |
