Firefox Compatibility with HUBB
Grant
Are you aware of any Firefox specific glitches with vBulletin? Specifically, I can reply to a thread or private message but cannot begin a new thread or message. The browser window opens as expected but I cannot access the typing window. Hence, I have to start new messages or threads in IE7. Is there a fix for this at your end or mine? I have similar issues with my portal at work which is built for IE. Thanks, Stephan |
Which version of Firefox are you using? In version 2.0.0.6 you can start a new thread.

Firefox
I always use Firefox, and before that Netscape and I never had a problem so it must be your settings. Maybe a firewall or antivirus program doing weird things ?

Did you have a similar situation with an earlier version? I don't think it's my side but it could be, I suppose. Stephan |
I use Firefox exclusively, except for testing with all the other browsers and platforms to make sure everything works, and have no trouble - so it's definitely something on your end. :(
I have no idea what it could be, because I've never heard of the problem! TRY: Disabling all FF extensions and see if that helps. Turn off your firewall and av - briefly! and see what happens. I'm on the road preparing next years HUMM, with absolutely crap connections, so only occasionally online, but let us know and perhaps someone can help, and I will check in when I next get online. |
Strange problem

Stephano, what happens when you click on the "new Thread" button ?
You wrote that you get the browser window. You get the window like the one in the attached picture ? If you get that you should be able to edit because it is the same window as the reply edit window. What exactly does work and what does not work? I use Firefox 99% of the time I'm on the HUBB and it works perfect so it can not be Firefox compatibility problem so it must be a setting on your Windows or Firefox configuration. We just have to find out what setting. What Windows version do you use XP, Vista or an older version ? |
I use both Firefox and IE and the only problem I've ever had is not being able to see the gif for reporting a post, but I honestly can't remember which browser I had the problem in.
Have you got Javascript enabled because the rich text editor will probably rely on Javascript. |

Thanks for your input, guys. I've done a bit of testing using Firefox & IE. When I start a new thread in IE it loads the window you posted above fairly quickly and the first mouse click puts my cursor in the text box every time. When I do the same with Firefox, the first mouse click in the text box always highlights the left alignment icon above the box! If I click a few more times I eventually get into the text box which I can then edit. This used to take much longer on my older PC so I think I was giving up at the point when the icon was getting highlighted. I've just got a much faster laptop, so even though there is still the odd quirk of highlighting the left alignment icon and a noticeable delay it is better than before. Thanks again. Stephan |
If u enable a debugger such as Firebug (and enable it for the HU site), you can see when any script errors (etc) occur.. which might well shed some light on the problem. I use Firefox exclusively (version 2.0.0.11: current latest version), from both Linux (home) and XP (work) and I don't have any problems on HU with it at all.. (not that I would access the web while in work, of course, ahem!)
