Horizons Unlimited 'slogan'
We're considering selling t-shirts and mugs with a Horizons Unlimited Motorcycle Travellers logo and slogan / catchy phrase. http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/eek.gif
We're hiring a graphics designer to come up with some ideas for the new logo, as we've taken it as far as we can just with volunteer assistance. Where you come in is helping us develop one or more 'slogans' to go with the logo, in keeping with the overall philosophy of the site. This will be a contest, with a prize for the winning design of ...wait for it.... a T-shirt with the new logo and slogan. Of course, there's also the satisfaction of seeing your phrase immortalized by the global community of Horizonistas. So here's your chance to unleash that creative genius within. http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/wink.gif Here's a couple to get started with: 'Never settle' - this is Monster.com's slogan, but I think it suits us better! 'Live the Dream' and 'Share the Dream' - maybe not obvious enough as to what they're about? Words which are of interest in conjunction with motorcycle, ex. motorcycle nomad or global motorcycle wanderers: nomad rover wanderer voyager rambler roamer Which of the above would translate well into German, Spanish, French, Dutch, other languages? Any that have negative connotations in other cultures or languages? http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/confused.gif That's enough from me - over to you! ------------------ Good luck and safe travels! Susan - Don't yet have a specific slogan jelling yet, but I think an interesting idea would be the paradoxical notion that this is where nomads can always be found. Now just need a simple slogan to communicate that more cleverly...

Hai,
Don't use the word "rover" In dutch it means gangster or robber http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif To continue the paradox-idea: Something like: Horizonsunlimited, the only home of a traveler (or nomad or wanderer or...) Maarten |
Horizons Unlimited
The wanderers return. Maybe? Alfie |
How about something humorous, like "Pave the Planet! One world, one people, one slab of asphalt." OK, I ripped it off from an Aerostich T-shirt, but it always makes me smile!
|
Oh, and I'm assuming the T-shirts will be high tech sweat wicking, anti-pong, fast drying etc and the mugs will be titanium??
|
I love "Pave the Planet! One world, one people, one slab of asphalt." - but it would probably upset a lot of folks.
'Share the Dream' says it all to me, as the site is very much about this and sharing information and ideas is what it's all about. Perhaps an additional phrase could be added which stresses the practical help on offer. Can't think what though... The best I can come up with is 'Click on/Ride off'... ------------------ Fuzzy Duck (I'm quackers about bikes) |

Here are a few points to ponder If your mind wanders, ride after it! Horizons Unlimited = Perpetual Motion Horizons Unlimited: lost to those that follow Let me see if I can come up with a few more later lost1 |
What about tthese:
(key in the idea is the word 'trotter') Where every (motor-)trotter goes... www.HorizonsUnlimited.com OR (Motorbiking) Trotters around the world find eachother on... Why 'trotter': Trotter in dutch is somekind of traveller, but not the casual tourist. Also is the name of travel guides in Belgium and Holland. And 'shall we trot' in English means lets go. And 'Se trotter' in French means 'getting on the road again' And the best: Trotar in Spanish means travelling! (A 'trotamundos' is actually a globetrotter!) Can it be more international? Also, when I as a Flemish speaking person, pronounce 'trotter' it is about the sound a kid would make to imitate a motorbike. Ideally I would combine the word 'trotter' on the T-shirt with a picture / drawing of a travelling motorbiker. That way it should be clear to anyone anywere on the globe. And also 'trotter' just sound fun too. Doesn't has to be too serious he! As a subtext you could also explain the meanings of the word in the different languages. Looking forward to the T-shirts. When can we order? Fireboomer (I am not a language wonder. Just thought of the word trotter in Flemmish and looked it up in some dictionaries) |
In the UK the word 'Trotter' is more commonly associated with either a pig's foot or 'Del Boy'- a character from one of the best loved sit-coms: 'Only Fools & Horses'.
The latter means that the word 'Trotter' is now associated with Reliant Robins, dodgy deals and merchandise that is definately not 'pukka'. Hmmm - I wonder is Susan & Grant would be happy to associate Horizons with these kind of values? ------------------ Fuzzy Duck (I'm quackers about bikes) |
Whooooops!
My (probably outdated) English dictionary is right now learning how to fly out of the window next to my desk! |
life is a journey, not a destination
|
I think we'll probably have more than one slogan, and perhaps one focused more on the non-English speakers.
It's interesting that trotter translates so well in French and Spanish and Dutch. When I first heard it, my initial thought was of 'globetrotter', which is fine in English, but perhaps overused? Grant thought of a racehorse, so that just shows that even in English, words mean different things in different countries! Keep them coming, we're getting some great stuff here! http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Any thoughts around the word 'community'? Susan [This message has been edited by Susan (edited 21 February 2002).] |
I really don't like the word 'community' much. It's become a cliche I think.

doesn't 'Horizonzons unlimited' says it al ?
btw; I don't like the slogans about a paved world. I like the unpaved roads. Freek |

How about something simple like "7 continents-2 wheels--1 home". I personally would like you to include the www.---.com. It would make it easy for anyone seeing a shirt or mug etc. to find us!
|
I concur with steve above - simple and effective..

Horizons Unlimited:
ONE WORLD(or PLANET OR HORIZON) AT A TIME. THINK GLOBALLY, RIDE LOYALLY; Horizons Unlimited or Think globally ride Limitlessly: HU Think globally ride remotely; HU still thinking.... |
Horizons Unlimited
'Bikers Without Borders' Notes: 1) Google returns no hits for this slogan. 2) bikerswithoutborders.com is squatted by someone who doesn't use it but the '.net' and '.org' domains are available, and bikers-without-borders.com too. 3) If I win, I'll need two T-shirts as my girlfriend is riding too. BTW she's telling me that if the logo contains characters, it should be a couple - not just one guy - but I'm sure you already thought about it, Susan http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/wink.gif ------------------ Pierre http://www.geocities.com/skypie999/bikes/ |
Hi Pierre
The standard one will definitely have a couple. We figure most men's fantasy is to find someone who wants to travel around the world with them and provide the domestic services - cooking, cleaning, etc, etc. http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/wink.gif Although if anyone wanted a solo version it's not too difficult to remove the passenger from the graphic. Here's Pierre's version with the HU on top: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ima...go/pierre1.jpg Susan [This message has been edited by Susan (edited 23 February 2002).] |
I still prefer "Bikers Without Borders" but here are three more suggestions...
Horizons Unlimited 'One World - Two Wheels' Horizons Unlimited 'Ride Your World' And the last one brings a new meaning to the RTW acronym... Horizons Unlimited 'Ride The World' |
I have a double feeling about Bikers without Borders. There are several simular organisations: Docters without..., Advocats without..., Pilots without,...
But these are (as far as I know) organisations with a goal / mission. The folks involved voluntary (or semi voluntary) help people out when in need of specific help. I know that advocats without borders are involved in the UN-court of Arusha. Doctors without borders (Medecins sans frontiere) knows everybody. I think we should be carefull by choosing that slogan, it might not yet be claimed as a name for an organisation... it does carry some weight. But, on the other hand, if anyone comes up with an idea how bikers could be of any help in I don't know wich region in trouble: I'll be willing to plan my holiday to go and help out if could do so by riding around somewhere. [This message has been edited by fireboomer (edited 24 February 2002).] |
I am going to have to agree with fireboomer, the 'without borders' name does have greater implications in more than one language. Besides, we all have had problems at one border or another, ie I would be in China right now. I think we should focus more on the nomadic type slogans, and definitely a map should be incorporated somehow or other on the tshirt and mug
|
|
Just a few more notions. "your local source-whatever your locale" or "wherever you are-you are here!" Maybe just a variation on your current slogan, "share the world". Just kind of free associating here as I go. Will post more later.
Steve |
I like Pierresas idea:
Horizons Unlimited Ride The World With the logo on top the meaning would be pretty clear in english. Not to sure how it would translate though... Cameron |

Susan,
I like the picture of the couple bikingon top of the globe. Underneath, should the following slogan should be... "7 Continents, 2 Wheels, 1 World..." "Horizon's Unlimited" "www.horizonsunlimited.com" Doesn't that simply say it all??? |
My 2 cents worth... Sorry for all the clichés, but some may work on a t-shirt, not necessarily as a slogan
Bikers do it around the world Remove the asphalt! One world, one people, one big adventure! Your dream, my reality Been there, done that ...on to the next continent... THIS is my world Go where the road doesn't take you Roads are for tourists Not your average tourist If you want it done right you have to do it yourself! Turn right, drive 5,000km, turn left and you should be there! This could be you! www.horizonsunlimited.com If there is a will, there is a road... It's a small world. Make it bigger! www.horizonsunlimited.com |
