HU Communities
It would be nice if you could select multiple communities to send a message to. If you for example want ask for advice in argentina in general, it would be nice not to have to refill the form 23 times. At the very least have selection for each whole country, when it has several communities.
Thanks |
In general ?

How many answers do you want? And by asking across a country you may get conflicting answers - what is correct in one place is not correct in another... Think it would lead to lazyness and communities being swamped ... and then non responsiveness from the communities? |
"In general" maybe is not the best choice of words. No guide book is going to tell you where to buy a motorbike next week. Nor are they going to tell you opinions abouit a certain dealer or many other things (like what proper paer work will lok like). If you want to share a trip intinerary in case folks want to join you for a short part
I have been to my library and I do read, thank you. When it comes to some questions I want as many answers/opinions/opportunities as I can get. Other times a single response will do. I don't think that the hubb is the type of forum where people feel swamped. |
Hi,
I understand your request, but sorry, there is NO way I will implement it - for a very good reason - way too easy for the spammer scum to send spam to the Communities! It's sad when scum make it hard on others, but it's necessary. It's actually rare that anyone needs to send as many requests as you have done, so generally it's not a big deal. It's also a good idea to be quite specific when asking questions - if too general or open-ended people tend to feel it's too hard, and don't respond. While some are happy to write long detailed responses to questions, most people like to give short quick answers and move on. From the 21 years I've been using bb's and 10 years running HU, there is no doubt in my mind that short specific questions get better and more answers than open, general questions. Good luck with your request! all the best, Grant |
Grant,
Thank you for your prompt reply. I now understand your reasoning appreciate your efforts to proect the HUBB users and valued community members from spammers. Again, "in general" was a poor choice of words. If I have a general question, I would search the forum, then post to the forum if I could not find an answer. My request for help from the communities was quite specific, but I needed to ask over a broad area. Basically, I am looking for a little help buying/setting up a bike in southern S Am and and willing to go anywhere to get it. I have just returned from jeeping across Central Asia followed by biking across Tibet and trekking in Nepal and have had little time for doing my home work. I am happy to say that he community members have dashed to my rescue, and this morning my IN box is filled with advice and offers of assistance. I will join or start a Salt Lake, UT community when I return from my journey, because I appreciate the help I have recievede from others on my 2 wheeled adventure and want to give something back to the HUBB users. In fact, after having difficultly and taking a big loss disposing of my Nissan Patrol in Tajikistan, I was too dejected/feeling broke to try to get a bike in China. In Kashghar, I met two hubb users crossing from Pakistan thru China to Kyrgystan who reignited my enthusiasm. Without their help and encoragement I likely would not have fulfilled my dream of riding the illegal southern route from Kashgar to Tibet (China 219), perhaps the first time this route has been ridden by a westerner. At least, maybe the first time on a Chineese 150cc!! Thanks again Grant for providing this valuable resourse. |
Glasswve - not picking on you .. just the idea/problem .. and trying to comeup with other ideas..

In retrospect .. some of my community questions are rather idiotic .. and are best left alone! So I think it all depends on the question ... going in circles here .. time for lunch. |
