Not IIS, it's a standard lamp stack.

The base issue is that we are using Drupal AND vBulletin tied together with a Drupal module called Drupalvb, which is responsible for the single sign on to both. However - the big however - it's clearly not doing it's job properly! The two systems have different default timeouts on cookies, and when you leave the site without logging out, one session lasts longer than the other, causing the issue.

So today's task is to sort that out, along with the other issues. Wish us luck, we'll need it!

For what its worth, same log-in problem, Firefox 4.0 and Windows 7

Grant Im still having the same issues after following the steps you suggested.

When I open up the browser to HU I can see my user name and password already there. When I try and log in nothing happens.

If I clear cookies it will then let me log in, even close the browser and open it up again and still be logged in.

However after a few hours if I try and get back onto the site I have to go through the same procedure.

BTW Im using the latest version of Safari.

Before attempting to log on click the logout link in the big yellow box at the top of the screen. Then log on and everything is back to normal - till next time.

Not quite for me :( Every time I try to log on I end up having to clear all the cookies and then have to re-login on the other 17 sites I am on too, before ending back on the front page rather than here on the Forum. We are on Firefox 4, whatever that is :blushing:

Oh, and from experience, I know that I will have to do the whole thing again in an hour or so, even though I rarely switch off my computer. What I have been doing for much of the past few days is to just come on to the Forum and click on 'Today's Posts' without bothering to log in, although you can't then post anything.

FWIW latest Mac OS and Safari is only allowing log in after clearing the HU cookies every visit.

Tried logging off then leaving the HU site and returning but no joy, had to delete the HU cookies again before I could log in.

Partly fixed, not perfectly yet :(

But using "Log Out" ALWAYS solves a lot of it. And not a bad habit anyway, since we're all travellers and using internet cafes on occasion right ;) Just our sneaky way of building good travel habits :rofl:

Logging in and out is not a problem. Staying logged in though is for me.
Even if I tick the Remember me box every time I navigate away from the site for more than an hour or two, it logs me out - it didn't used to. I could leave it overnight with the computer off and still come back as logged on.
I originally deleted the cookies and I've updated a new bookmark for the HUBB.
Using Firefox.

if I arrive to the site directly from a bookmark then I am not logged in. if I then click a link I do become logged in. possibly a problem with the session logic.

I don't bother logging in anymore unless I want to post a reply. I just look at todays posts.

I hope it's sorted at some point as I don't feel as "connected" to the HUBB as when I'm logged in.

Well that was strange. I wrote my last post and then remembered that I wasn't logged in. I clicked the submit reply button expecting it to show me the sign in page but it posted it and logged me in at the same time.

I'm glad I don't have to sort out this software problem. Some part of the system obviously knows who I am, my IP address, and knows that I have logged in previously and not logged out. But the log in status is not recognised by other parts of the system. Good luck Grant.

It's PARTLY fixed, we're not satisfied with it as is and will continue working on it.

It's a cookie thing, and three pieces of software - one is a module of one - that is the issue.

We run Drupal and vBulletin tied together with Drupalvb - to enable you to be logged in both at once - but Drupalvb the module is clearly not at the stage of development it's supposed to be, so we're working on it! Bleeding edge stuff :( which is not our normal mode for software. We tend to run well behind. We originally had recommendations to run Drupal 7, which is just released, but there was lots to be scared of, so we just went Drupal 6, (former was on Drupal 5) which has been out for about 4 years, and considered very solid, and Drupalvb similar - but :oops2: not so.

Going back is now not an option, so we keep slogging away at it - or at least our developer does now, we hit the road for HU's European events tonight. We gave ourselves two weeks to get the site settled down after the upgrade, thinking that was plenty of time before we had to leave, but it didn't work out that way.

Anyway, thanks for your patience all, we'll get there, and it will be better!
