Login with Safari
Hey Grant,
I have the strangest problem with login after the upgrade. I can't login using Safari (Mac OS X) unless I first login using Firefox and then subsequently login with Safari. Tried clear browser cache & restart browser multiple times. Didn't work... Anyone else have this problem? |
Similar problems with Chrome and Firefox...
Can't log in with Chrome. Cleared cache and restarted browser, same result. Tried again, same result. Tried with Firefox. Same result. Dusted IE8 off and this works (hence able to post). Went back to Chrome whilst still logged in with IE8 and I can now log in. _________________________ Logged out of Chrome and IE8, then started Chrome by itself and I can now log in OK. BTW Grant, you should put another way for people to contact you on the yellow header otherwise people who can't find a workaround to logging in won't be able to let you know! Tim |
I use Firefox, Mac OS10.x
I can no longer click the titles of the categories on the left side of my screen ("About Us," "Forums," etc.) to collapse the lists below each title. That means I need to scroll down to find "Posts Last 24 Hours" each time I open the site. I don't like scrolling down; I'm growing old quickly and don't have the time to spare anymore. Plus: the giant yellow box hurts my head. It would be just as effective if it were a quarter the size. I'm not seeing what's been gained, but I trust it's significant. Mark |
For firefox try removing the cookies:
Preferences -> Privacy -> remove individual cookies (or Show Cookies) Search for horizonsunlimited and then delete them all. In chrome there should be an equivalent option. ν. |
Mac OSX 10.6.7
No problems using Safari 5.0.5

all good with Firefox 4.0.1 running on both Windows XP and Windows 7
There was an issue with 4.0.0 which the above update fixed. |

From the warning in the yellow box there's obviously some recognition that there might be a problem logging on, perhaps if the underlying problem was explained it might make it easier for people to work out how to solve their environment. |

Now works without having to start FF first. However, it seems to keep me logged in without clicking the remember me box. Not an issue at home, but one would have to remember to physically log out when using a net cafe PC. All this talk of cookies has made me hungry. :taz: I'll play with the HUBB more next week. Time to go out and ride my motorcycle!! |
Back to using the Windows XP machine, can't log on at all with Chrome no matter what I do to clear cache, cookies, history and downloads. Also tried logging out from HUBB.
I can log on with IE8 (which I don't normally use at all) but one change from yesterday, even with IE8 logged on, I can't log on with Chrome. |
And then after closing IE8 I had another go with Chrome and I logged on OK.
Hopefully someone can fix whatever's wrong on the server, or suggest a solution at this end that doesn't involve reloading the operating system! |
FWIW, at home, running 64bit Windows 7 and FF, latest version (ran an update yesterday) and no problems with anything. I also alway log out of the HUBB and have FF set up to delete all history/cookies etc when I close it.
I also tested the new HUBB in whatever version of IE is loaded on my machine (probably relatively up to date, cos the machine is only 3 months) and no problems either (also with it set up not to remember anything after I log off HUBB and close browser). At work on IE latest and XP, no problems either. Never used Chrome nor Safari so can't comment. Chris |

For the techies: We're not on Drupal 7 yet - this winter is a possibility, but maybe the following winter. The upgrade we've done now will make it much easier - not easy to got to Drupal 7, but for now Drupal 7 isn't ready for us - there's too many modules we use that aren't fully baked yet. We aren't going to vBulletin 4 for two reasons - it's still too flaky, and the connection to Drupal 6/7 isn't there. Hopefully by winter Drupal 7, vBulletin 4, and the connector - Drupalvb - will all be ready. If not it's not critical - there's LOTS we can do with Drupal 6. In the meantime, there are immediately a few new features, primarily in the user options area, such as a photo album, messaging etc. Also there is now a "like" link to say you like this post, and a "Share" link to post on de.licio.us, technorati, digg and twitter. We'll also be able to add more stuff over the fall and winter easily. Yellow box - sorry - but even with that some people were wondering what was going on... No need to scroll - just use the "New Posts" link on the blue bar above the posts - then you can choose over exactly what period you'd like new posts from. Collapsing the lists - hmm, hadn't even noticed that was gone! Will see what I can do. Quote:
THE cure is clearly a full flush of the COOKIES - so far as we can tell it's primarily a cookie issue. We ran into this problem frequently in testing, and a flush always cured it for us. There is an issue with logging in where you look like you're logged in according to the "Who's online" list, but the welcome box isn't there, just the login box - we're NOT sure what's happening there, and I'll be working on it over the weekend but have little hope of nailing it - it's beyond my technical expertise - but I hope to be able to clearly document the issue so we can track it down with our guru on Monday. He wanted the weekend off for some weird reason... In the meantime the workaround I've figured out is to logout using the logout link I've put in the yellow box, then login again - and that seems to do it fine. If anyone can come up with a clear "what they did" to make that issue happen - and can reproduce it consistently - I'd greatly appreciate it! In the meantime, thanks for your patience and help while we sort it out - website upgrades are always fraught and flaky till it's sorted out, and we THOUGHT we had it nailed - a hundred hours of testing on two different servers in the process of getting it here and it's still not right is frustrating! BUT we're getting there! thanks!:thumbup1: |
Still flaky on Windows XP + latest Chrome.
When I first visited this morning I had to log in (HUBB didn't remember me). Then a couple of hours later when I revisited I was asked to log in again and this time it didn't accept the login. So I clicked on the logout link and tried again and then I was able to log in OK. |
Using my Mac/Safari I can only log in using the "logout" link first. A bit of a pain but better than having to clear my cookies every time. Thanks Grant.
Also it remembered me when I returned, which was nice. |
I thought the problem was fixed by deleting cookies once. But it doesn't seem to be the case...
Could it be an issue with the date remembered by the cookies (if they do remember dates)? If I close my browser and restart it the same day it logs on without deleting the cookies. If I go to bed and try the next morning, it won't log in with out deleting cookies. Mac OS X 10.5.8 / Safari 5.0.4 |
Hi Chris. I just logged on and it just happened to be 1 minute past midnight. You guessed it... it didn't remember me so I had to use the log out link and re-log in.
I'm sure they'll fix the bugs, we'll have to be patient. |
The hard part is trying to figure out a consistent problem and what's causing it! BUT all the info you guys have so helpfully posted :clap: should make a big difference in solving it when we get down to it in the morning.
So thank you! And thanks for your patience! :D It's a huge upgrade, and bound to have some problems. :( Overall it's been pretty good - login is the only significant real issue, otherwise minor stuff. |
funnily in the morning I had the same problems again.. with my FreeBSD Unix box + FF, showing the yellow box with the following text only after calling www.horizonsunlimeted.com page from out the Bookmarks:
"The website upgrade is done, we're in testing phase - posting looks good, no major issues. There ARE a few minor issues - if you see anything weird please post it on the HUBB - Website Feedback Forum, or the Webmaster form. IF you're having trouble logging in - please clear your browser cache AND restart your browser - that should fix it. Thanks!" now... after just "reloading" the page the new yellow box with the lockout link appears, clicking the link and I can login again... hopefully this post gets trough... and the issue is thereby fixed.. still this editing box "Reply to Thread" gets in to the way of the RH side boxex "Who's online", "Discussion" and "your comments", this boxes overlaying the editing box and under the smilies icons... |
one more issue... while I wanted to correct and edit my last post... the saving process dose not work and I will be locked out automaticly...
have to lockin again and start a new post, can not save an older one... |

As above I just used the logout link and didn't delete all my cookies (as I've done this 20 times already and I'm fed up having to sign in to all my other sites). |
If I open a window with the HUBB in it without being signed in, and while thats open delete all HUBB cookies in Firefoxs preferences, why once I've typed in Grizzly7 does it still know my password?
If I delete HUBB cookies, and then open a HUBB window found via Google, since the HUBB is not currently a favourite etc, it also still knows the password? Where else is that stuff stored?! |

To clarify the yellow message regarding login issues: The problem is not actually with login per-se, but rather with the vBulletin session timing out before the Drupal session - this can happen if you login, and are inactive for a period of time. What will happen is you will still be logged in to Drupal, but no longer logged in to vBulletin, and this conflict will not allow you to re-login to vBulletin until you logout from Drupal. If you are seeing the vBulletin header with the "login" form (no "welcome" screen), then you are NOT logged in to vBulletin. If you can access User account | Horizons Unlimited and see the "view" and "edit" tabs (see screenshot below), then you ARE logged in to Drupal. In this case, visit http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/logout and re-login normally - NO NEED TO CLEAR YOUR COOKIES in this scenario. http://f.cl.ly/items/2c1J063P1r1J1K1...54.26%20PM.png |
