"Reputation" button thingy?
...is it a new thing or has it been there for ages and I've just missed it?
What does it do??? I'm intrigued... And what about the little green "distinguished road" thingy? Where's that going I wonder? Fascinating times we live in. |
Quote:
It is new - you can add to someone's reputation - or take away from it if they do a bad post - and it is reflected in the green dot wording. "Distinguished road" is the default starting point - I didn't choose it. The idea is that if someone has lots of "brownie points" then their thoughts are listened to, and if they have lots of demerits, maybe not so much listened to! Good for the newbies to the site. We've been debating whether it's a good idea or not - what does everyone think? |
Watch me change my mind when my "reputation" descends to "fat clueless berk" level.

User Reputation Values - What do you think the titles shoud be?
Here's the Default vBulletin "User Reputation Manager Values".
I think YOU guys can do better than this! :helpsmilie: :helpsmilie: Let me know what you think they should be - the best idea set gets a free t-shirt! NOTE: Default score you start out with is 10, "User is on a distinguished road". Every time a user approves or disapproves a post, you get 1 + or -. Perhaps there's not enough negative, or? The numbrs aren't fixed, only the number of levels. Feel free to rejig as you think it should be! :funmeteryes: Minimum Reputation Level - Reputation Level -99999 User is infamous around these parts -50 User can only hope to improve -10 User has a little shameless behaviour in the past 0 User is an unknown quantity at this point 10 User is on a distinguished road 50 User will become famous soon enough 150 User has a spectacular aura about 250 User is a jewel in the rough 350 User is just really nice 450 User is a glorious beacon of light 550 User is a name known to all 650 User is a splendid one to behold 1000 User has much to be proud of 1500 User has a brilliant future 2000 User has a reputation beyond repute Thanks for your feedback! |
Oh my...:whistling:
|
Difficult to see how this would add serious value to the site.....but I'll start the bidding by offering to raise Simon's rating for the low, low price of a single pint, payable on demand.
Mark |
I'm happy to accept your terms Mark.
I'm starting to feel that this feature may be open to massive abuse... |
Did y'all notice? "Grant has disabled reputation" Now, whatya make of that...? ?c?
|
I did? Looks fine to me! Anyone else?
|

So what you're trying to say, Grant, is that if I wish to abuse the system I had better hurry up because it might just vanish at any moment? Ok, I can take a hint.
I remain unclear why it is that Simon, Thomas and I are depicted as well and truly embarked on the "distinguished road," while you, Grant, are claimed to possess only a "disabled reputation." Mark |

I also just saw the button thing a few days ago,.....and i thougt
that someone gave me 10 points. Hahaha....now i read that everyone starts out with 10 points! I "think" it is a nice idea! |
This dose not bode well for me.

I've done some. I'm afraid they're quite silly: -99999 User is Glenn Beck -500 User is much less personable than Hitler 0 User is a little bit of a git 10 User doesn't know how to cheat the system 50 User can spell 1500 User has been out of the house a few times 2000 User is cheating 3000 User is much better than God 5000 User is Ted Simon |
I just received some reputation, and I can't see who it's from. I looked and looked, but it's nowhere to be seen. I wanted to post a thank you to the person, but I can't see who it's from.
Any chance we can get a "from" field there? I figure it should be possible to send a pm saying thanks for the rep points. But, anyway, whoever gave me the thumbs up: Thank you. :) |
Ratings and Feedback
I also noticed a few other changes to the HUBB, like recommendations of other content as a redirection before getting the HUBB forum and requesting feedback.
For the ratings/reputation button thingy, I wanted to give too much feedback, I think 5 times and got the following message "You have given out too much Reputation in the last 24 hours, try again later." I presume it's to stop abuse :confused1: What are the other limitations, can you only rate the same person once? As for the ratings this is my too bobs worth.

Why do people need a "pat on the back" for posting interesting/useful information?
The people here have been doing it for years and have not needed gold stars, like primary school kids, so far. The post count is enough and if you lurk here for long, you soon find the people worth reading. Its all a bit too "touchy-feely" for me and belongs in on facebook or lamebook and other sad sites.doh Cheers, John:blushing: |
I would go with this idea is a very very bad idea..
Posts good or pointless should (note this is not if they are offenceive) should be made without fear of being rated. There is enough people that judge around with out making it easy.. Too often i have seen a person ask a "dumb" question or did not do a good enough "search for the answer" and get ripped on for it.. many were never seen again. (i myself have experience this). If people have dumb questions or comments let them ask it.. if you dont like a post.. DONT BOTHER TYPING! Dont judge or say anything... what is the old saying: If nothing nice.. say nothing... this will also cause cliques to form irrelevant of usefullness of post content.. No one here is "The expert" we should not try and make people look like they are... |

I think one mans pointless post could be anothers inspiration? I certainly think so. I'm off to start an oil thread, see if I can be as popular as a **** in a space suit overnight  Andy |
I voted no !!
I'm not into hierarchy. I don't even like post counts being shown really but anyway...... !! I think that it might lead to some good information being passed up because the user is unknown or new. Can you also imagine the arguments it could create.... Also, I reckon it will be quite open to abuse, favouritism, etc. The hubb works great as it is I think !! |
I think the reputation system has just too many levels. Another forum system I use has the technique, "xxxx has been thanked xx times," which I think is far more meaningful.
The ability to deduct from the reputation is a bit dodgy--just because someone doesn't agree with a post. |
Mine's a 'no'.
It doesn't seem to provide anything you'd call progress or improvement, and could drag threads in all sorts of directions. I agree with all the 'no' arguments posted so far. But, could it be set up to operate only on threads in 'The Bar'? That might provide a bit of entertainment. |
My vote is "no" too, also for all the reasons posted above.

No!

Hello to all.
First i thought (and wrote here on the hubb) that it "might" be a good/fun idea. But after reading some of the things above i changed my mined!!! It is better to answer a person"s post. "if you like it or not" with a reason. So that person knows why someone else likes/dislikes it. Also people may think:i am not going to responed a post, becouse mabey people do not like my opinion(and get a lot of bad points) While saying what you really think is a lot more inportant!! Thank to you all.:thumbup1: So please change my vote!! |
2 more NO votes.
Surely we can find something more productive or entertaining to do with our time. Let's elect a prom King & Queen! |

I agree with this comment, this is why I have chosen "NO". |
Which is why I liked the "xx has been thanked xx times" facility which is positive only
(on www motorhomefacts.com) |
Well it's pretty clear what most of you think - and it aligns with my thinking too, so it's OFF!
Now when someone asks for it I can say without any doubt that the people who count don't want it! I never thought it was a good idea - you'll notice we've been going a very long time without it :) But if YOU ask for something, we'll always do our best to give it to you. thanks for all the feedback everyone! |

Anyone any comments on Tim's idea? yes / no? |

I think it would make my day if someone actually liked some of the misspeltted rubbish I type. I would however be pretty narked the first time someone informed me that as I've only got so many posts, so many House Points and can barely spell my own name, my opinion is less valued than others. Could be more work for the site moderation guys who'd have to inform the misinformed that the "Get me a beer Noob" thing isn't the HUBB way? Is there a risk the quieter guys might just click "Like" rather add their own comments and we'd loose something valuable? Andy |
