ADVrider Longtimer... HUBB Newbie
 

Well I say long timer on advrider, thats not necessarily true, but I know my way around the forums there!

Is there a perhaps a friendly rivalry between the 2 forums I should be aware of?

Anyway, Hello, from Dundee, Scotland. I am a 27 year old guy who went on a 20,000 mile 29 country trip back in 2011, when I was 22 years old, and am now planning another fairly massive RTW trip in which I leave this coming May on 2 F800GS's with me on one and my fresh faced 20 year old South African girlfriend Kyla on the other :)

Exciting stuff.

I have a pretty big thread over on ADV about the planning of the trip:

But it seems that as good as ADV is, that HU is still top dog in the world of adventure motorcycling. So I finally took the plunge and signed up :)

Hopefully I can contribute something to the forums as I have made just about every mistake you can possibly make in the world of adventuring! Ha!

I don't think there is any rivalry the two forum offer different things, the main difference here is you are expected to have more respect for those whose opinions differ from yours, there is lively debate but without the personal insults.

Chalk and cheese; eating too much chalk will lead to constipation, or worse.

Hoping you can post "lessons learned" here. A good distillation of events is always interesting (to me anyway) rather than thousand page blogs.

Bike stuff is great too: Prep, costs, problems, solutions.

Brucie, you should be able to get much more than 200 miles range from the F800GS bikes, my record for the F650GS twin which is practically the same (slightly higher geared) was 271 miles which is over 24 km/litre.

I'm so glad you ended up with the larger MSR Elixir 3 and freestanding means you can pitch it on hard surfaces and supersoft sand.

I have to say I ride all the time in Decathlon hiking boots, I'm always wanting to stop and explore places.

You should look into getting a second passport each, this will make it easier to send one back to the UK to get visas if necessary.
