December January solo trip ideas
Hi all ,
My first post here but I have been reading a lot of your interesting and informative threads. I'm in Ireland and just back from 2 weeks motorbiking North Vietnam, an incredible experience ..... I have a hypothetical question for you .... If you could go anywhere for 3 weeks in December/January where would you go ? Any ideas would be much appreciated bier Cheers, David |
Vietnam would definitely be a top contender. The multiday loop outside of Chiang Mai in Thailand should also be a good January destination.
Budget permitting, my top option would be the South Island of NZ. I rented a bike in Christchurch and did Arthur's Pass > Fox Glacier > Queenstown > Milford Sound (overnight cruise if you can book it!) > Invercargill/Bluff > Dunedin > Oamaru > Christchurch, and that filled up two weeks in a rush, you could easily find three weeks' worth of amazing stuff to see and do on the South Island. |
Southern hemisphere, obviously!
If you've already been to SEA then the most obvious destinations would be Australasia, South America or Africa. That would be my order of preference also. |
Hi David,
In my opinion spending three weeks in Chile exploring the carretera austral would be a great idea. Motoaventura.cl is a good source for rental bikes. Unfortunately it is not the cheapest option but the nature is breathtaking and absolutely worth it! Ride safe! Martin |
With money being object (and being in the Netherlands) I'd aim for Canary islands. Rent a scooter and go island hopping for couple of weeks. The Caribbean islands are close second.
If money was not an object this would be a good time to start a six month trip from Ushuaia to Alaska. New Zealand, Australia and the islands between Australia and China (including Japan) also gets my vote. At this time I'd avoid Southwest Asia and Northeast Africa. |

You could always try the Elephant Rally in southern Germany. That would be one week for the rally and another two spent recovering
