Hailing from Flatistan

Hello folx,
I am a relatively new ADV'er if you can call it that after only having owned my GS for 6 months now.
Originally from the Netherlands, I moved to the states in 96 to seek better opportunities and found them. About 8 years ago I purchased my first bike (Busa) and learned how to ride street with only a few years of dirt bike riding experience under my belt. Amazingly, I didn't kill myself on the beast and went on to learn important lessons riding the road with everybody around me who couldn't give two sh!ts about my life. I moved on to ride an 07 ZX10 and 2010 R1 on the track and street and like to think I'm an OK rider now. Famous last words, right!?

Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and just go ride.

SO a friend of mine started bugging me a year ago after having purchased his 2012 GSA to look into these ADV bikes. I was resistant because I felt buying one of them would be acknowledging that I actually was 43 years of age and not a you man dicing it up on the street. Then one day, getting off the R1 creaking like an old man I thought, lets give those bike bikes a try and went a took a test ride on a new GSW. That's all she wrote. Returned to the dealership and told them to prep the bike for me to take home.

Had her a few months now and am happy to say that I don't miss the Guided Ballistic Missiles at all anymore and sold all my bikes except my YZ450 dirt bike.

So far I have done one extended (for me) ride up to Sparta Tennessee from Clearwater , FL and about 10 Sunday rides exploring the inland of Florida.

I am having a blast and am looking forward to my first week or multi week ADV ride entailing camping and exploring.

I'm the one with hair.

I guess quite a few folks on here have "been there, done that" (or they are still too young).

Yep, that's a nice introduction! And :welcome:
Coming from Florida you can ride all year :thumbup1: which is some consolation for the lack of hills/mountains.

ps You could write something in the BMW tech thread about the new-fangled Wasser-head; there isn't much in there about that bike to date.

Thanks for the welcome. Yes people think that you can ride year round in Fl but a lot of times the summers are just to hot and late summers are just to wet. On the ha I raally do t care if its hot or wet. That's what being and aspiring adventureria all about IMHO.
