Is this the HUBB everybody is talking about?
Greetings!
I made it from Kaiserstuhl AG(yay big city live) to Brazzaville without you guys, yet every other traveller I met seemed puzzled when I said I'm not active on this forum. Since I'm stranded due to a piston losing its structural integrity I thought I could spend the time waiting for spare parts checking out the lovely community here. A few words about myself: I'm a thirty year old man-child from Switzerland and I spent my spare time during the last two decades two decades either drinking unreasonable amounts of alcoholic beverages or riding bikes. Lately I got a little bored of this and decided to ride a bike as far as financial, physical and mental constitutions allow. As I mentioned before I am in Brazzaville right now which I hopefully can leave during the first half of the coming week. Next destination is Windhoek. Maybe this forum helps me being a little less planless for the rest of my journey, and perhaps I can contribute a little too. See you on the road! |

Welcome; hope you get sorted with the piston soon.
I had a week in Namibia in 2013 and loved it. If you are heading down to Cape Town and timings work I'll be in the area (winelands) for the first few days of June before i had off (east coast route to Cairo). Cheers Andy |
Hi Andy
I hope I will already be a little further on my way back up north again by then, but I sure will keep it in mind :thumbup1: |
Greetings too!
Yes, its a lovely site, to meet n exchange ideas. My RTW plan is: I leave india 1st april and westbound through russia enter europe and then crossover the Atlantic to northam and then down to southam and then crossover the Pacific to Australia and from there ride back to India. Ths is planned as a single 12 month trip. I ride a royal enfield 500cc and shall be 60 years old. Keep this in your mind if you plan to ride parts together. Cheers!!!

'Bike on a Hike'. Search within the site doesn't work too well, but you can use an external Google search, for example
site:horizonsunlimited.com/hubb namibia Will pick up all the threads mentioning Namibia. Vaufi is particularly knowledgeable about this area. |
@ aditya: I'm not too sure where I will go after Windhoek, but it is possible that our paths cross either somewhere on the American continent or in South East Asia. I will keep you updated. I'm always open to travel with people who go the same direction as I do.
@ Tim: Yeah the search function seems to be limited on every online forum I know of. Unless they have google search implemented which then rubs some people the wrong way for privacy or monopoly reasons. |
Greets to Herr Bünzli
Windhoek will be, when it comes to your lifestyle, just the right place to be ;o) The best beer to be found in Southern Africa is brewed in NAM and is IMO "Windhoek Draught" :thumbup1: Anyway, since Tim nudged me to write some lines: When entering NAM from Angola turn right, along the Kunene River and check out the Epupa Falls. When lots of water, truely spectacular. South of Opuwo is Twyfelfontein where you find beautiful rock engravings. In Windhoek hang out at Joe's Beer House, 160 Nelson Mandela Ave- Great vibe and travellers' meeting point. Swakopmund is a must-see for its "Kaiser"-style architechture. But if you're short of time go straight for Lüderitz, the oldest settlement during the German colonial era. There is the interesting ghost town Kolmans Koppe. From there the great Fish River canyon isn't far. If time allows take the piste on th north bank of the Orange river to Sendelings Drif. There is a ferry to South Africa. Then circle around the southern border of the Richtersveld NP from Sendelings Drif to Vioolsdrif. A very scenic piste. Enjoy! |
