Get a UK licence (preferably) is the first thing. Though I'm currently living near Tel Aviv Israel, with my parents retired to Limassol, Cyprus.
Cyprus is a 40-minute flight and the country has no Highway Code, the Cyprus/Euro test involves a half-hour ride on your own machine. In my case it's the classic 'chicken or the egg' situation since my preferred ride is the BMW F800ST of which there appear none over there to buy first and bikes can not be rented for the test. But frankly I don't think such a test would improve my bike skills, so I'd prefer to get a UK licence. And to get one of those involves a return to the UK with the theory test pre-booked and then move on to getting the licence a.s.a.p through the Direct Access route.
Touring-wise I'd like a long, slow tour around the back roads of Europe without a time limit so I can really get to see things properly. No weekend 1000kms dash for me thank you.
