Norway ferry and road Toll payments
Hi, i am planning a 4 week tour of Norway and would like to hear advice on ferry and road toll payment methods. Can you just rock up at the ferries and road tolls and pay via credit card? All advice appreciated.

For the majority of ferries, you sign up at a website with your license plate. Then just show up at the ferry, they check that your plate is in the system and you ride on. Then you get one combined bill at the end of the month on your credit card. I think the same works for road tolls.
Specific long-distance ferries like Bodø-Moskenes have pre-booking tickets, but it is always legitimate to just show up and try to get on if there is space. |
There was always room without advance reservations or undue anxiety for me and my bike. Don’t know how that compares if driving a car or truck.

True for the vast majority - but I've definitely seen the last Senja to Moskenes ferry of the day being stuffed like a Tokyo subway train, with quite a few people left to camp overnight on the pier...

Ignorance is definitely bliss sometimes. Not knowing of the possibility I’d be left behind worked nicely for me!
