Anyone around in Malaysia or Thailand?
Just arrived in KL, hoping to pick up my bike from the port next week and start riding north. Probably start with the Cameron Highlands and then cross into Thailand - be great to hear from anyone currently in the area!
|
Hey Mike!
Still in KL? I thought you'd have had the bike by now. :scooter: If you go into the highlands, we stayed at a fairly basic but comfortable place called strawberry fields. You cant miss it, as the whole area is like stratford upon avon. Be safe dude, Lindz and I are thinking about you (mainly muttering 'bastard, wish I was there')... Are you still keeping in touch with Michelle? Do we need to cheer her up? (ps, free wifi at KLIA!) |
Hey Chris- Well the Carnet is finally winging its way to KL as I type though I suspect it will be sometime mid next week by the time I get the wheels turning as I'm going to be foolish enough to try and clear it myself....I mean how hard could it be eh...??
|
Hello!
Hey MikeS :welcome: to KL:palm:
Im in KL & happy to assist you anything.... Where are you in KL? Wanna meet up? I'll PM you my email & mobile number:clap: Clearing at KLIA should be smooth! |
Lol, surely it cant be THAT hard...lol hang on...yea it could! Good luck fella!
We've had a letter back from NZ immigration saying that our initial application to get a migrant visa has been accepted. Currently watching this space to see if we'll be accepted. Bonza mate! Btw, my KTM is dead. Got hit by a stupid cager and has wrecked the back end - swing arm now lives in the gear box and the pillion seat is near to my head. Insurance is doing its stuff, but damn its slow going. Take your time coming home..bloody weather is awful! ps, looks like you've a new fan! :mchappy: |
Hi,
There are 4 of us staying in Mae Sot, Thailand right now. Kind of semi-permanent, although I'll be leaving at the end of the year. I'm in Vientiane today for a visa run. We'd love to meet fellow travellers. Started a HU community to that effect, but it has yet to see a msg... Cheers, Peter. |
oh sh*t!
:oops2:
Looks like my pc is giving problem, its okay if I view it from other pc. Sorry guys! ps: did you get your bike yet mike? |
melaka now
hey,
we just arrived to melaka few days ago from dumai. we'll leave melaka for the eastcoast and ride up to cherating, then taman negara NP. where are you now?? cheers darius |
Well the clearing of the bike at Port Klang was surprisingly straighforward (will do a full shipping report soon) but all in all, after the shipping office (to pick up paperwork and pay about 300RMs, it was a visit with the Carnet to the Customs office (they didn't even want to inspect the crate), from there it was over to the warehouse, pay 19RMs (about $6!) and I was free to take my crate apart and put the bike back together again. They kept the crate so I didn't have to dispose of it and then I just rode straight through the port gates even though the guard on the gate should have checked my gate pass.
Anyway, i applied for an Indian Visa here in KL last week and took myself off up the centre and back down the east coast stopping on Perhentian for a few days of R&R. So, am now back in KL till I get this visa then I'll head straight for the west Thai border, will do a loop up into Thailand, and into Laos so hope to bump into some of you on the road! Someone mentioned they were heading to Malacca, if so stay in the Kancil Guest House, quite near the big Equatorial Hotel, you can park bikes there no probs and is a v friendly place. |
Thanks
Radzi- Thanks again for saving the day when my helmet got nicked in KL! (doh!)
(I left your spare one in the bike clothing shop you recommended as we discussed) Quote:

Darius, you are very welcome here and I'd love to meet you. MikeS is here now, but he will be leaving again tomorrow, if he can fix his tappet booboo quickly enough. ;-) There are at least two other HUBBers here long-term.
Cheers, Peter. |
hey
great!
we'll leave penang tomorrow for soghla and start heading north slowly! looking forward to meet you guys! cheers darius |
Thanks for the GPS help Peter. Ahem, yes, my tappets are now sounding less like a bag of spanners falling down the stairs and more like a DR should do!
Made it up to Mae Hong Son, nice ride up here yesterday. |
Hello Thailand
Peter and all,
While the KTM and Landcruiser remain in Cairo, the Mrs. and me will escape the baking crazy heat of Egypt for the damp sweaty heat of Thailand for the month of July. Would be good to bump in to any HUBBers. Thinking of coming straight to the N and hiring a vehicle, was thinking of a car on the assumption that it's going to be too rainy for a bike. Any advice from those in residence? JT |

mae sot
hi guys,
we just arrived to mae sot, staying @ phannu guesthouse. just saw the dr 650 outside. hope to see you around darius |
Sorry, I have been out of circulation for most of last week. Spent some time in hospital, fever again and again they couldn't find anything beyond a bronchitis.
Well, there is SUPPOSED to be a dirt road - AHEM - when I tried it in the dry season I drowned my bike and PC in the first ford I had to cross. You need a light bike and a better map than what I had. Wouldn't dream of attempting it during or after the monsoon. I can see your bike from the balcony of the other building, but I haven't seen you yet. Cheers, Peter. |
