Anyone got up to dare contact details for Thai customs?
Hi all
I'm trying to contact Thai customs re temp importing some rickshaws into Thailand which are being used in a charity event. Paul from the RAC gave me this really useful page all about importing vehicles into the country. Customs English But the email at the bottom does not work. Does any one else have any up to date contact details, either email or phone, regarding contacting Thai customs? Thanks Ants |
If you click "Contact Us" at the top you will get some phone numbers. Whether you will be able to communicate in English with them is another story.
Don't bother with email, hardly any organisation ever responds to emails, especially not in Thai language. Assuming these are registered motor vehicles importing them temporarily is not difficult. All you need are the rego papers and the owners need to be present at the point of importation. Note that if you are shipping them by sea expect to have to bribe customs officials in the port. Air is a lot easier. |
Thanks Peter. My Thai friend spoke to them and it is indeed fairly simple - as you say. As long as you are not in Thailand for more than 30 days. After that it gets a little trickier!

Contact details for Malaysia /Thailand border posts
Hi all
if you are crossing between Thailand / Malaysia here are the phone numbers of the customs posts 1) Yala Province T: +66-73-231-194 2) Narathiwat Province T: +66-73-611-368 3) Songkha Province T: +66-74-398-817 4) Satun Province T: +66-74-311-014 Apparently Songkha is the best one, for security reasons ie border disputes between Malaysia and Thailand. It's not tricky at all to keep your vehicle in Thailand for up to six months: every 30 days, before your temp import permit expires you take it to any customs office and get a free 30 day extension. I've done this a number of times without major problems. Only in Mae Sai did I have a problem, because they didn't understand what I wanted, they then issued me with a new temp import, but forgot to cancel the old one in the computer system, which caused a lengthy delay the next time I entered Thailand.
If you want to stay longer you simply take it out of Thailand and come right back in. I have read about expats who keep doing this for years, although customs have started to clamp down on that. |
