Bhutan

Hi, Later in the year we are planning to go to Nepal and spend at least 5mths there, our plan is to base somewhere hire a bike and then do trips from there. one place we would like to visit is Bhutan, does anyone know of any difficulties there would be taking a Nepal bike in, do you need guides etc etc. We know Bhutan charges a daily tax on visitors.
Thanks Joe

As far as I know there is no land access to Bhutan from Nepal--only from India. I'm dubious a hired bike can be taken across these borders, but I'm perfectly willing to learn more. In any case, your first hurdle would be the rental company, and second would be whether you can enter India with it. Entering (and driving in) Bhutan would be at least your third impediment, and maybe fourth, fifth and sixth.

In the meantime, it's my understanding that individual tourists can now enter Bhutan--no tour group required--but that such travel is difficult because it's such a recent development.

Hope that's helpful.

Hi, Thanks for response, have done a bit more research and your right taking a hire bike would be near impossible. Flying in is the best option then hiring there or going on a tour, seem a few options there. Since we plan to stay in Nepal for at least 5 months looking at the possibilities of buying then reselling a bike.

For what it's worth, I'm riding India now, and using riderly.com to source rentals (currently on a borrowed bike). It's giving me royal Enfield bs4 for ten euro a day, and it comes with free border crossing. So, if you get an India eVisa, fly in to New Delhi, it's a easy (relatively) ride into Nepal, and back into India for an entry into Bhutan?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...fc6c1c2440.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...189692e3fa.jpg
