Bike Friendly Accomodation Agra, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Mumbai???
Hi
I'm on my way to Agra on my Enfield and was wondering does anybody know of any Hotels, preferably near the Taj, that have a safe place for my bike. I'm also going to be travelling through Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Mumbai and was wondering about bike friendly accomodation in these cities. Particulary interested in safe places in Mumbai as I'll be staying here for just over a week. I have the trusty Lonely Planet which I have been using as a crude guide to Hotels but it never mentions the safe parking situation. Any tips welcome Thanks James |
I can't give you a name but from experience I know that the hotels will let you park inside the building *if they have the space but otherwise roadside parking usually comes with a security guard / watchman.

The Shanti (N27 10.134 E78 02.585) in Agra has good views of the Taj and is very near the East Gate. You can park your bike in the courtyard. The hotel is basic and friendly enough and the internet is cheap (R30 compared to R60 in Delhi etc.) Having said that, there is a hotel (Hotel Sheela) round the corner (and near the east gate) which the Lonely Planet mentions for its nice garden. You have to go past it to get to the Taj early morning ticket office. I think if I went back I'd try there and maybe eat at the Shanti in the evening for the view. http://www.hotelsheelaagra.com/pics/sheela_loc.jpg In Jaipur, don't go anywhere but the Pearl Palace (N26 54.979 E75 47.737). The rooftop restaurant is a little paradise in Jaipur and the staff are very helpful and friendly. (The owner rides an Enfield too.) I think it's worth e-mailing ahead because it's very busy. For other cities in India, check Ralf & Eva's web site. Ralf usually makes a note of bike parking facilities. In Mumbai last year I stayed in Calabar, the cheap area near the Gateway of India, at Bentley's Hotel (N18 55.181 E72 49.846). It's not brilliant but it's OK and 'close to the action'. You can leave your bike within the hotel 'garden'. Stephan |
