bike licence for india

hi
planning a trip around india and beyond with the wife and am considering buying two small capacity bikes in india.
i have a bike licence but my wife doesnt - she can ride a bike though
does she need a bike licence to ride in india thailand etc or will an international car licence be enough.
thanks

[Hi. In the past 5 and a half months in India with a bike we have been asked only once for the drivers liscence, and the cop did not even look at it. They are easily convinced that the inetnational drivers liscence is for all vehicles, as I think that Indians do not need a separate liscence for bikes. No Worries!

If she's going to ride a bike in India then I'd imagine she'd probably want to ride back home afterwards, too. Why not bite the bullet and get the licence before the trip, rather than after? She'll need every bit of experience to survive Indian traffic anyway!

You may never get asked for your license, all going well- few people ever are in India. BUT, if you have any sort of accident involving another person, your license will likely be thoroughly scrutinised and if its not valid, you are in a very poor negotiating position.
If the police become involved, which doesn't take that long, the ammount of bribe will increase dramaticaly with no license.
