Bike rental Thailand to take over the border to Cambodia and Laos

Well, when things change in your live you have to make the most of it, I am hoping to have Dec and Jan off (which is less time I was planning on, but other things cropped up, never mind) I am now having to look into Thailand, Laos and Cambodia (not that I am bothered), intending to take my kit with me (helmet, and gear) but will need to hire a bike, don't want to be spending a fortune on flights. SO...... I am looking for bike rental in the BKK area which will allow me to go over the border?
Also will six weeks be enough and I am not sure whether to take tent or use hotels
I have looked on the site but didn't find anything conclusive.
Any help would be great

Thanks a lot
Wayne

I tryed to rent a bike to take across the boarders as well but no chance. Via email they said yes but when i came to pic up the bike they told me at least the 125cc bikes are not allowed to leave the country in general only a few companis offer big bikes to be taken across but they charge a lot per day so it would be cheaper to bring your own bike. The 125cc bikes are only 5 Dollars per day so in my case i decidet to rent those to explore the different countrys and take the cheap bus to get around and cross boarders with:

I would allways bring a tent. Hotels are very cheap in South East Asia but with a tent you are free and can get away from the mass tourism :thumbup1:

don't take a tent, unless you absolutely love to camp. SE Asia is dirt cheap for accommodation (&food!)

rented bikes over the border, my experience could be outdated, but around 2005-6, seemed like one of the more complicated regions to do so. In fact I went Thai-Cambo-Laos on rented bikes several times. BUT the owner of the bikes was always with me, he handled the paperwork and that probably made a big difference. Would be best to ask the rental companies, if they can give you an authorisation letter, and if this would work in that region.

Thanks for the info guys. Any more would be most welcome.
I am looking at flying out on the 05 Dec 14 and flying back on the 26th Jan 15
So I am hoping that 7 weeks will be a good time to see the the three countries.
Is it easy to get coach/bus from Thailand to Laos then into Cambodia?
I know that Thailand is reasonably priced but I thought camping would save a bit more cash
Just need to work it all out and get some good places to visit

Well I had 4 months but you should be able to do it in 7 weeks as well. The buses run regularly and everyone allways trys to sell you the tickets so they are very easy to get but cheaper if you buy them directly at the ticet office and the one for Cambodia not in Laos at the 4000 Islands se link above ;)

Enjoy it, SEAsia is great :)

Hahahaha.......enjoy THAT ride Lonerider
We did the reverse run 6 months back at night & I'm sure the train was only worthy of half the speed they were doing :confused1:
Enjoy your trip !
