Hi,
Does anybody know if it would be possible to cross the Iran- Afghanistan border ay Islam Qala-Dogharoun?

I crossed in 2010, from Afghanistan to Iran in a UK-registered 4x4.

In addition to visas, you technically need a Route Pass to bring a vehicle into Afghanistan, however on my three visits to the country I managed to talk my way in without one.

I trust you are aware that there is no safe route (as in locals will mostly not travel by road) to Mazar / Kabul etc. The road to Turkmeinstan passes through areas with a Taliban presence, but is said to be OK during the day (my police escort stopped and deployed in a village when I passed through, and told me to drive on).

The road from Dogharoon / Islam Qala to Herat is safe as far as I know.
