border Iran- Pakistan: only Taftan?
Just to know: coming from IRAN to Pakistan, is there only the Taftan border open to cross or is possible to find some other crossing at south ? (on the map: Kuhak - Grawag, or even more south: Pishin - Kalyg?).
This alternative, just to avoid the Quetta road in baluchistan, that seems to be dangerous... Thanks Roberto, Italy |
That is the only crossing.

Border crossing
Roberto,
Good luck with the crossing. I should be doing the same leg in just over a month or so (fingers still crossed for Iranian visa collection in Istanbul) and would be interested in hearing how you got on. It'd be good to hear from you and maybe see you on the road. Good luck! Simon |
To avoid travelling on the Taftan Quetta route you can always put the bike on the train which travels twice a week or truck. Train should be a better option as you can yourself travel in it. AC busses regularly ply this route and are faster than trains. Shouldnt be expensive.

Sure it runs near the Afghan border, but it is (or at least was in Nov-2007) heavily controlled by the police. Not so sure, how much grip the government has in the Makran region, or anywhere in Baluchistan, except that road. |
I think the road will be much safer than the train, the train only runs once a fortnight or so and is targeted too often for my liking, just do a google search and you'll see what I mean.
We went through Taftan only a few weeks ago, it was fantastic, crazy as anything but fantastic. We had no trouble what so ever. For detailed info see our blog. |
