Philippines
I just read on Aug 27 this year there was a meeting in the Philippines and carnets may well be accepted now. Can anybody confirm this?

Sorry, no info on Philippines.
But while in Indonesia, I met a German biker, who had ridden from Europe to Vladivostok & Japan, then shipped by air to Taiwan, but the bike was not allowed entry, so he shipped onwards by air to Jakarta (and sadly his bike was then stuck in customs in Jakarta, even though he had the carnet, but that´s another story). Today flying is so cheap and much, much quicker than going by sea, it´ll be tough to find some long-distance ´steamers´ or ferry routes. May be some ro-ro connections could exist, but (officially at least) you are usually not allowed to go on the same ship. |
Probably shipping from Port Klang in Malaysia.
I am assuming that there is ferry service to mainland Malaysia from Borneo (check that yourself). From what I hear, that is the cheapest place to ship from nearby. Also, you will need a Carnet for Japan. |
