Can I leave my bike in India for 6 months?

I'm looking to finish the next leg of my around the world trip in India to fly back to work. Is this possible? Do I need to get a double entry visa or is the bike completely separate from my passport?

Thanks for the help!!!

6 months

Hallo
We just crossed the border Nepal to India and there we heard that our car can stay max. 6 months in India on our carnet.
Succes

The carnet is only valid for six months entry to any country at a time so you would need to leave the country as soon as you return, India enforces this rule very strictly. That is assuming they will allow you to leave without the bike which they shouldn't allow under the terms of a carnet. I would suggest trying Nepal where the customs can be more flexible, see if they allow you in without stamping the carnet.

We left our bike in India for a month while I flew home to work. Had no issues going out & coming back in other than customs finding it odd we only had small hand luggage & a set of tires;) Maybe leaving it too long would incur a fine?

assuming you still have a valid carnet and somewhere safe to put the bike you should be fine!

Great advice everyone. I'll see what other research I can dig up. I love getting first hand info on here. Thank you very much!

Hello from Amritsar!
I am in India now stay for 1 month more and will fly home. Then I want to leave the bike here for 4month, come back and go for a few days to Nepal and come back to India for another 3 month.
Would this be a problem, because it's are more than 6 month together?

Thanks
Joe

You can keep your vehicle in India for 180 days at a time.
Then you will need to go out and enter again with a new Carnet.
We went out from Wagha 2 months ago and they counted the days (luckily we were going out at the 180th day...).

Thanks for the answer I thought something like this.
So I'll go to Nepal and leave the bike there.

I hope you get fuel in Pasu, we meet there a week ago. I'm the Austrian on the KTM.

Best regards from Amritsar
Joe
