China to Japan and South Korea
I'm doing my round the world ride at the moment. I still have alot of time before this becomes relivent but i was wondering if the ferries from China to Japan and South Korea are able to take bikes?
What are the charges for doing this? How easy is it to get a chinese registered bike into these countries? I'm in Cambodia at the moment heading down to Singapore, then back up through loas back to Vietnam where i will sell my Vietnam bike in Hanoi. So should be in China end of May. Have to stop at a mates in Hong Kong, probably head over to Tawian and rent a bike there. Then back to China where i want to buy a bike to head north with. Thankyou for any help you can give Enjoy your life. I Am :scooter: Blair blairntv650.blogspot.com |

BUT it will probably be impossible to get a bike into Japan unless China will issue a Carnet. Even if you could get a Carnet, you couldn't ride legally because China is not party to the 1949 Geneva Convention on Road Traffic. Same situation probably for Korea unless it has a specific treaty with China. I have heard of Germans not being able to ride in Korea as Germany is not part of the 1949 convention. |

I ended up selling the Haobon 125 I bought in Qingzhou, in Shanghai, and flying to Busan where I picked up the bike I had shipped from Melbourne. PM me if you wish to discuss further. |

I have been given advice that this will be OK from our tour person in China but I need to ensure that will be the case. Does anyone have information or experience with shipping from this port to Korea? Cheers, Ro |
